"If it gets too real, you can always turn it off." The tagline from the 2026 film Teenage S*x and Death at Camp Miasma resonates when we think about why horror is so popular. ⤵️

Consent is the key. Engaging with horror means giving informed consent to be scared—you know what the movie is about, the runtime, and that the villain can't actually cause physical harm.

Horror media gains popularity when it provides a space for viewers to safely explore their identity and how it shapes their fears.

According to the HRC Foundation, more than 1 in 10 adults identify as LGBTQ+. That's about 25.6 million people, most of whom are gearing up to vote in the 2026 midterms.

The history of LGBTQ+ communities is about the power of political resistance, and it intersects with all other struggles for liberation. As we continue to fight back against attacks on our autonomy and freedoms, we are reminded that our elected officials should always protect our right to live freely as our most authentic selves.

It's all on the line this November. Who we elect will shape our lives. Can we count on your vote to protect LGBTQ+ Ohioans?

That's why we visited the Epstein Files Reading Room.

It will be located at The Sanctuary on Neil in Columbus through October 11. It's free to enter, but you'll need to make a reservation online.
