NEW: “445 Columbus City Schools educator and support staff positions are being eliminated this year due to budget cuts while the billionaire Haslams demand $25 million more of city taxpayers’ money” said John Coneglio, CEA President. “It’s outrageous, and it should be unanimously rejected, City Council should not be in the business of starving our kids of public resources to pad billionaires’ bank accounts.”

CEA would like to thank Hannah Elhard (Stewart ES) for testifying today against SB 19 and Jaquia Hearn (Easthaven ES) for submitting testimony against SB 19. This bill would require Math Improvement and Monitoring Plans (MIMPs). The bill just had its third hearing in the House Education Committee. There is still time for us to convince legislators to remove this harmful provision from SB 19— check the link below for more information on how to do that.

Merry Crewsmas! Before we cheer on our Columbus Crew, we’ll be joining CEJC, Hilliard EA, and South Western EA to hand out 15,000 flyers reminding fans that owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam received $600,000,000 taxpayer dollars for a new Browns stadium while our schools experience layoffs and program cuts.

We’re asking them to do the right thing and give the money back. Our kids need it more than billionaires do!
