Congress' budget is a betrayal of working families. Because of this bill, children will go hungry. Seniors will lose access to long-term care. 17 million people, including veterans and their families, will lose their health care. People will die from preventable causes, and hundreds of thousands of workers will lose their jobs.

Let’s be clear: Everyone will feel the pain of this debt-exploding budget. States, cities, towns and schools will face a fiscal crisis due to these extreme cuts, putting all public services on the chopping block. Hospitals and nursing homes will close, depriving entire communities of care, especially rural ones. The price of health care for workers with employer coverage will rise by nearly $2,000 annually for families. Cuts to clean energy investments will kill good union jobs and raise energy bills. During a time of rising costs, this budget doesn’t just fail the middle class; it pushes families out of it, trapping millions in cycles of poverty.

We will not sit back while Congress sells our futures to billionaires. We will organize to hold every elected official accountable who voted to betray working families and hurt our communities.

Solidarity means being a part of a union that fights for who we are, not just what we do. LGBTQ+ rights are workers' rights and your protections on the job matter. Happy Pride Month from AFSCME. 🏳️‍🌈

This Workers Memorial Day, April 28, 2025, AFSCME Ohio Council 8 is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or developed illnesses due to dangerous working conditions. We remain committed to fighting for safe workplaces and on-the-job protections for all workers.

More than a century ago, legendary labor organizer Mother Jones said, “Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.”

On Workers Memorial Day, we commemorate the thousands of workers killed or injured on the job every year including AFSCME members. Let’s honor them by standing together to demand better protections on the job. https://act.afscme.org/letters/support-worker-safety-legislation?source=direct_link&
