Most authors have the writing part down. Then publishing turns out to be a whole other field, and selling is a whole other field again.

Three jobs. You trained for one.

The Creative Independent surveyed over a thousand working creatives and found that 74% learned to financially sustain themselves through trial and error. Not school. Not a mentor. Trial and error, alone, while also trying to write books.

Nobody should feel behind about that.

What changes it is having people in your corner who do this every day, which is the entire design of the Business Bootcamp on August 21 and 22.

Erin Pohan does bookkeeping for creative businesses and will help you set yours up. Tia Hooper reads publishing contracts for a living and will answer questions about yours, with one session for authors and one for publishing professionals. Chelsea Williams builds financial frameworks for women who create. LJ Dix handles retirement planning for people without an HR department. Sharissa Bradley finds grant money for creative projects.

That idea became They Could Be Saviors, a climate thriller that asks one wild question: What if the people with the most power were forced to confront their own humanity?

Your readers are searching Pinterest right now. The question is whether your books are what they find. 📌

We ran the numbers during a recent WIP social media intensive, and the thing that surprised us the most most had nothing to do with Instagram. For so many of you, especially those writing for midlife and menopausal women, your readers aren't scrolling. They're searching Pinterest.

So we brought in Pinterest expert Heather Farris to answer the questions you sent in. Swipe through for the strategy.

Pinterest is a search engine, not a social feed, and that one reframe changes everything about how you use it. No daily posting. You batch your pins once a month and let keyword-rich content send readers to your books for years.

The carousel gets into the specifics: why your boards shouldn't be named after you, the two kinds of pins every author needs, and the 90-day patience game that makes it all work.

Who do you know who's survived seven toxic marriages and is now thriving?

Meet Jo Ann Fawcett, WIP Society member and this month's voice in our Overcoming Adversity with Collaboration series.

Jo Ann started writing her first book before she knew she'd leave her seventh husband. What began as words on a page became something bigger. Clarity. Peace. Her voice returned to her. (And isn't that what we're all about? Amplifying women's voices!)

Three books later (her "From Toxic to Thriving" set), Jo Ann isn't just surviving. She's creating with joy again.

And she'll be the first to tell you she didn't do it alone.
