What does community really look like?

At the Black Business Expo in Charlotte, we sat down with Crystal of PlugggedBoutique to discuss the power of showing up, staying involved, and creating spaces that bring people together.

As we continue our Provide. Protect. Evolve. series, we’re exploring how modern leadership extends beyond business and into the relationships, events, and connections that strengthen our communities.

Because building a better future isn’t something we do alone—it’s something we do together.

What role does community play in your growth?

A boycott only works when there’s somewhere else to go.

As conversations continue about where we spend our money and who we support, one question remains…

What alternatives are we building, supporting, and investing in today?

The truth is that businesses don’t become household names overnight. They grow because communities discover them, support them, and choose them long before everyone else does.

That’s why events like the Black Business Expo matter.

They give entrepreneurs, creators, and business owners an opportunity to share their stories, showcase their products and services, and connect directly with the people they serve.

Meet Zakiya, one of the business owners we had the opportunity to speak with during the expo, as she shares what community means to her and why spaces like these are so important.

Because the conversation isn’t just about where we stop spending…

It’s also about where we choose to invest our support.

What local business do you believe more people should know about?

What does it mean to provide, protect, or evolve in today’s world?

During the Black Business Expo, we asked entrepreneurs, business owners, and community leaders to share their perspectives and their answers did not disappoint.

As we continue exploring this month’s theme, Provide, Protect, or Evolve: Redefining the Modern Man, we’re creating space for meaningful conversations around leadership, responsibility, growth, relationships, and purpose.

Now we want to hear from you…

What does provide, protect, or evolve mean to you?

Stay tuned because the conversation is just getting started. Join us next Monday for our BrwnGrlz Book Club discussion of A Will to Change by bell hooks featuring Author Spotlight guest Taurey Henson, author of Everyday Flexitarian. Then tune in Tuesday for our featured interview with Adrienne Diaz, Founder and CEO of TeleHealthy & Wellness Solutions.

More conversations. More perspectives. More community.

Some of us are still trying to heal from versions of survival that were once called “normal.”

This month, BrwnGrlz Collective explored Mental Health Awareness Month through the theme:

“From Survival to Softness… May She Bloom Anyway.”

And honestly… the conversations became bigger than we expected.

What started as a simple game of “Survival or Softness?” turned into real conversations about parenting… communication… emotional safety… discipline… healing… and the ways generations are slowly shifting from fear-based survival into intentional healing.

For many of us, survival looked like:
“Stop crying.”
“Because I said so.”
“Stay out grown folks business.”
“Take that whooping.”

But now…
More people are asking questions.
More children are being heard.
More parents are trying to communicate instead of control.
More adults are realizing that surviving something does not always mean it was healthy.

Through our conversations with 🎙️ Porshe Colts and 📚 Dr. Myava Clark we explored what healing, softness, accountability, and mental wellness can actually look like within our community.

Because softness is not weakness…
And healing does not erase what survival taught us.

It simply asks:
What parts of survival still deserve to come with us…
And what parts do we finally need to put down?

Now we want to hear from YOU…

Do you think today’s generation is healing differently?
What survival habits are we still normalizing that may actually be hurting us mentally and emotionally?

Watch the full conversations… then come back and talk to us in the comments. 💜

POV: You came hungry… and left planning your next restaurant visit 😭🔥

Before Taste of Black Columbia, people kept asking us…
“What kind of food are they gonna have?”
“Are they gonna run out?”
“Is it really worth it?”

And after experiencing it through the lens of … absolutely.

The variety of food was CRAZY. From dishes you already love… to restaurants you’ve been wanting to try but never got around to… this was the perfect opportunity to explore without committing to a full meal somewhere unknown.

And the best part? The food did NOT run out. There was still food available all the way until we were getting ready to leave near the end of the night.

Add in the live music…
the networking…
the energy…
the culture…
and being surrounded by our people just enjoying the moment together…

yeah… Taste of Black Columbia was definitely an experience. 🖤

Next year when the rolls back around… pull up hungry 🤝🏾🔥
