Zack felt called to using engineering in missions since high school, but found difficulty moving from dreaming about it to actually saying "yes" in the years after graduating college.
As he worked through the slump, two things helped him through:
💡A conversation with a Mexican pastor who advised him to knock on doors and then let God open or close them
💡 The idea, "if I’m not going to do it brave, I can still do it scared."

Now, we are happy to have him on staff at EMI Mexico!

True Hope Organization owns two properties in Siem Reap dedicated to supporting its ministry and community development initiatives. One site is planned as an Education Facility, while the second will serve as a Dormitory and Retreat Center.
EMI Cambodia provided concept design, detailed architectural documentation, and construction supervision. The development encompasses an education and community hub, alongside a separate residential and retreat facility designed to support True Hope’s training programs, resource initiatives, and long-term community engagement efforts.

An EMI Disaster Response team recently joined regional and local partners in northern Venezuela to provide support after the earthquakes that hit the country earlier this summer. The team led workshops at three different churches in the region, providing training in structural assessments and repair, WASH preparedness, and emotional and spiritual care.
Through the capacity building of these trainings followed by guided assessments in the community, the goal is for these trainees to continue serving their neighbors through more house assessments and intentional care for homeowners. Thank you especially to our regional partner Camino Alliance!

Have you ever wondered what it looks like to use your design skills in missions? For many EMI staff, that's exactly the question that led them here. Tatiana Sanchez is one of them.

Tatiana was working as a civil engineer in New York City with a deep desire to be involved in missions. After volunteering on an EMI project trip in 2017, she realized she didn't have to choose between engineering and missions — and she's now been on staff with EMI South Africa for nearly five years. In Elim, Alaska — a small rural community in the Bering Strait Region — sourcing parts, tools, and skilled labor for basic home repairs can be a significant barrier. A small plumbing issue can quickly become a months-long loss of water or sewer access for an entire family.

In partnership with the City of Elim and RurAL CAP, EMI completed WASH repairs in 35 homes and trained homeowners with the skills to handle basic maintenance themselves — so families can count on reliable access to water and sewer services year-round. 🏠
