They spend their days looking for children who have been exploited, pursuing the people who hurt them, and carrying stories most of us will never have to see.

But who takes care of the people doing the work?

David Frattare has spent 29 years in law enforcement, including 22 years working cases involving the exploitation of children. He knows firsthand that if we don’t care for those on the front lines, we can’t expect them to keep carrying this work well.

The Guardian Retreat gives these investigators, analysts, and prosecutors a place to breathe, recover, reconnect, and remember that they don’t have to carry it alone.

When we care for the protectors, we help them keep protecting.

God asked, “Whom shall I send?” And Isaiah answered, “Here I am. Send me.”

Please join us in prayer for Colombia.

On Monday, August 10, a devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia. Homes and critical infrastructure have been destroyed, thousands of families have been impacted, and hundreds of people have lost their lives.

Today, rescue teams are still working through the rubble, racing against time to find survivors. Hundreds remain missing, while families wait and pray for news of their loved ones.

Pray for those still trapped.
Pray for the families grieving unimaginable loss.
Pray for the rescuers working tirelessly in dangerous conditions.
Pray for children and families who have lost their homes and sense of security.
And pray for strength, provision, healing and hope as Colombia begins the long road toward recovery.

They carry stories most of us will never have to hear. They face things most of us will never have to see.

But this week, they don’t have to carry it alone.

Not only is Guardian Retreat about gaining the tools to heal, it is about connection, community, and the power of being surrounded by people who understand the unique weight of this work without needing an explanation.

Sometimes healing begins simply by knowing, “I’m not alone.”

These Guardians spend their lives protecting children. This week, we get to pour back into them.

Most people have no idea why the ministry my wife and I founded more than two decades ago supports law enforcement through a task force dedicated to protecting children.

Right now, as I write this, we have about a dozen law-enforcement officers, FBI agent, sheriff’s deputies, police officers, analysts and others working directly on the front lines to protect children from abuse.

But there’s another part of this mission most people never see.

We help these officers, agents, analysts and prosecutors recover, rebuild and stay in the fight.

The work they see is heartbreaking. Most people don’t want to think about what can happen to children behind closed doors. But these men and women have to face it.

That’s why we’re here.

This is just a small glimpse of the work happening through our Guardian Retreat at our headquarters in Colorado, where law-enforcement professionals from across the country come to recover and be strengthened.

It’s quiet work. It’s difficult work. But it’s desperately needed.

And we can only continue doing it with your help.
