C.S. Lewis shared in his book, “The Four Loves:”

“Friendship arises out of mere companionship when two or more of the companions discover that they have in common some insight or interest or even taste which the others do not share and which, till that moment, each believed to be his own unique treasure (or burden). The typical expression of opening friendship would be something like, ‘What? You too? I thought I was the only one.’”

For Eli, one week at camp when he was 11 years old was enough to shape his testimony forever.

“It was the first time I really started developing a personal relationship with God,” Eli remembers. “I believed in God before, but learning how to study my Bible and develop a personal relationship on my own with God — that will forever be a part of my story.”

Now, having returned to Eagle Lake to serve as a counselor, Eli spends his summers investing in the next generation — and he’s witnessed multiple stories of kids coming to Christ for the first time.

From spiritual revival to sustainable farming, a village in Uganda called Muyembe has been transformed by the gospel and discipleship.

What began with just one church leader has now blossomed into 11 churches and a thriving community rooted in Christ.

“We worship God in a holistic way,” Aidah, a leader in the community, says. “We thank D4D for this holistic gospel that has brought us to this level. We now go to other communities and spread the news so that Jesus will be accepted there, as well.”

Paul Stanley, former International Vice President of The Navigators, speaks to the importance of why discipleship can't happen sideways.

Many churches are great at grouping people by life stage, but what they're missing is the link between stages. Young people wrestling with real struggles are often talking only to peers who are wrestling with the exact same things, with no more experience than they have. That's not how discipleship was meant to work.

Life-to-Life® Discipleship means someone further down the road walking with someone just starting out. Passing on wisdom, not just sympathy.

Who has been able to pass on wisdom to you?
