We are throwing it back to June 26th, when our youth job program crew took an exposure day visit to Case Western Reserve University's Veale Recreation Center for Beat the Streets National Enrichment Camp and Duals—an annual event bringing together youth from BTS programs across the country for several days of wrestling, enrichment, leadership development, service, and community-building (https://beatthestreets.org/events/national-camp-duals/).

Our youth crew worker team got a firsthand look at the amazing work being done by The Streets Cleveland Executive Director Demetrius Williams, who also serves on our own Slavic Village Development Board of Directors.

The excitement continued just last week at the official groundbreaking event for the Beat the Streets Cleveland facility renovations! It was great to hear from Ward 3 Councilwoman Deborah Gray, supporting Cleveland's youth through SVD's youth job program and beyond. SVD Board President Doc Warr was also in attendance, delivering a powerful message about grit, resilience, and learning to never give up.

Tiffany Scruggs, Chief of Community Services from the Mayor's Office, passionately praised the beautification and how a newly renovated building would feel in the area and emphasized that it is something our community's residents and youth rarely get to experience. Jeff Leonard of JTL Construction said that they are doing the construction work at cost—see the building plans in the photo slide! Renovation work is expected to wrap up in November.

From our own youth program providing professional development and career exploration opportunities, to breaking ground on a much-deserved, newly renovated facility for our youth at Beat the Streets Cleveland, these moments show what we can achieve when community leaders invest directly in Cleveland's youth!

Here's the most recent construction updates for Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's Kingsbury Run Consolidation Sewer project, with site activity expected in and near Broadway-Slavic Village during this phase of the project. 💦 Further updates to come!

Today, SVD's youth program participants got a hands-on look at modern innovation and cool careers today during an inspiring career exposure day visit to MAGNET: The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, the Northeast Ohio Partner of the Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Building the next generation of innovators!

SVD is currently hiring! Our organization is seeking an energetic, creative, and goal-oriented community advocate for the role of the Healthy Homes Initiative (HHI) Housing Specialist. Working closely with housing and community outreach team members, the HHI Housing Specialist is responsible for working with the City of Cleveland’s Healthy Homes Initiative to improve the quality of life of residents and the City’s housing stock.
