The Morgan Conservatory is the largest arts center in the United States dedicated to every facet of papermaking, book arts and letterpress printing and to cultivating the talents of established and emerging artists. An international destination that is free and open to the public, the Morgan Conservatory is a working studio, gallery, gathering place for the community, educational hub and purveyor of some of the finest handmade papers in the world.

This past Thursday, we had our second Extended Workshop session in Letterpress and Bookbinding. The Morgan looking for our next Papermaker/Paper Studio Manager 💚 reporting to the Executive Director, this position oversees the production of handmade paper (including eastern and western papermaking styles), coordinate educational programs, and engage with the community to promote the art of papermaking. Working closely with our Community Arts Coordinator, the ideal candidate will have experience in papermaking, collaboration, strong, teaching abilities, and a commitment to community outreach.

Come see our new exhibition “All About Abaca” on view through June 30th. Featuring Morgan Conservatory Artists-in-Residence who regularly utilize the fiber abaca, a highly regarded fiber in papermaking communities, and local artists who are new to the medium. Each artist was given a 40” x 60” sheet of handmade abaca paper to manipulate and use as they saw fit within their own artistic practice. Abaca (Musa textilis), also known as manilla h**p, is a plant native to the Philippines. Aside from papermaking, abaca is primarily used as a biodegradable alternative to synthetic fibers such as material for high quality tea bags, rope and more.

Bob Kelemen is teaching his fabulous Modular Printing workshop at the Morgan this Summer! These designs were made in Bob’s class by .dunne and are stunning examples of what this amazing and fun process can yield!
