Cleveland Council on World Affairs CCWA's mission is to inspire engagement in international affairs and world cultures through education, citizen diplomacy and public dialogue.

The Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA) is dedicated to fostering global awareness in Northeast Ohio. To do so, CCWA coordinates programs with the U.S. Department of State that bring hundreds of international visitors – professionals, students, and government leaders – to the Cleveland area every year. In addition, CCWA hosts a variety of dynamic speakers to engage the local community and also works closely with area schools to bring the world to Ohio students.

Yesterday, CCWA CEO Marti Flacks and Program Associate Lydia Johnson joined students from Jackson High School for an exciting diplomacy simulation! Challenged with finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts between four fictional nations, students engaged in diplomatic negotiations and demonstrated how compromise and dialogue are the key tools to resolving some of the world’s greatest challenges. The solutions they devised together were creative and thoughtful, and our staff had a great time guiding them through their simulations. Last week we had the pleasure of hosting combat sports experts from across the globe. we were able to connect them with some amazing organizations, starting with Strong Style Training Center and Brecksville Wrestling to discuss training, and the mentality they bring to their organizations. Then they met with Youth Challenge, Cleveland Inner City Boxing Club, and Urban Squash Cleveland to discuss the importance of involving youth in sports and the lessons they teach. Finally, they returned to Strong Style Training Center to participate in a boxing class and to observe other classes.

The Dr. Raj and Karen Aggarwal Forum on International Business is just around corner! This year, CCWA will be joined by Eaton's Chief Economist, Jordan Vickers, to share his analysis of where the global manufacturing economy is heading and what it means for Northeast Ohio.

After three decades of offshoring, American manufacturing investment has turned sharply homeward. Tariffs, pandemic-era supply chain shocks, and a bipartisan turn toward industrial policy have pushed companies to build capacity in North America, while the buildout of artificial intelligence has created enormous new demand for data centers and the power to run them. How durable is the reshoring trend, and how much of it survives a change in trade policy? How can Northeast Ohio’s workforce and infrastructure keep pace with the trends in global manufacturing? For a region historically built on manufacturing, these questions will largely define the economic future of Northeast Ohio.
