It’s the first Friday of the month, which means it’s Five Dollar Friday at Second Chance K9! 🐾

We are asking our community to consider donating just $5.00—the cost of a cup of coffee—to help us honor both Veterans and K9s in need. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, these small contributions make a massive impact on our mission to provide fully trained, ADA-recognized Service Dogs to Special Operations Veterans.

Whether it's funding specialized task training or ensuring our K9s are well-equipped for the elements—even if they are a little dramatic about the weather like Chase—your support keeps our mission moving forward!

Every bit helps us give our heroes and these incredible dogs a true "Second Chance." Thank you for standing with us! 🇺🇸🐕

GOOD NEWS: Chase has been cleared for discharge! 🏥✨

We can’t thank you all enough for the overwhelming flood of love and prayers over the last 24 hours. Chase had a strong night, responded beautifully to his medication, and after a morning check-up and some breakfast snacking, he’s been cleared to recover at home!

The diagnosis is a "fever of unknown origin"—a bit of a medical mystery that left us baffled—but the important thing is that he’s on the mend. While his liver levels were off and his spleen was enlarged yesterday, today’s labs show he’s trending back toward normal.
Sitting here today, it’s truly humbling to look back. When Melissa and I first started this little rescue, we never could have imagined having such an incredible "Team of Teams" standing behind us during the scary moments.

A massive thank you to for taking such incredible care of Chase during this scary time—we knew he was in the best hands possible.

Chase was our very first official rescue as Second Chance K9, and seeing this community rally for him reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

Thank you for looking out for Chase. He’s one happy (and tired) boy! 🐕💤

Hoppy Easter from the SCK9 Pack! 🐰🌷

Easter is a season of renewal, and at Second Chance K9, that’s a mission we live every single day.

Looking through our photos from this year and years past, we are reminded of the incredible privilege of walking alongside these dogs on their journey. We’ve spent many Easters with rescues who arrived "shut down" and fearful, only to watch them transform into confident, high-performing service dogs for our nation’s veterans.

Whether they are currently in our care or have moved on to their forever "duty stations" with their handlers, every dog we’ve had the honor of hosting during the holidays remains a part of the SCK9 family.

Thank you for supporting our mission to save two lives, one mission at a time. Wishing you and your families a wonderful Easter Sunday.

Sending a little extra love to the one who started it all. 💔🐾

Life at the rescue can be difficult and scary for us at times, and today is one of those days. Our very first rescue turned permanent resident, Chase, woke up not quite himself. His usual drive was gone, and we were worried enough to head straight to the emergency vet.
The initial checkup shows he has a fever and an enlarged spleen. We are still waiting for more answers, but our hearts are heavy for our boy right now.

Chase has been the foundation of so much we’ve built here. He’s seen us through every high and low, and now he needs us to stand by him.

Please keep Chase in your thoughts and prayers today. 🙏 We’ll keep you all updated as we know more.

It’s Five Dollar Friday! 🐕🇺🇸

Look at these faces. Behind every SCK9 service dog is a story of a "second chance"—from a shelter kennel to a veteran’s side.

We specialize in high-drive dogs because they match the intensity and heart of the veterans we serve. This Friday, you can be part of that transformation for just $5.

That’s less than your morning coffee, but it provides the "fuel" our trainers and dogs need to stay in the fight.

Feeling lucky? We certainly are! 🍀🐕‍🇲

This St. Patrick’s Day, our elite K9s are trading in their working vests for some festive green! While they look adorable in shamrocks, their real "pot of gold" is the life-changing bond they form with our Special Operations Veterans.

At Second Chance K9, we don't rely on luck—we rely on the expert training and dedicated support of our community to rescue high-drive dogs and transform them into life-saving service partners for those battling PTS and TBI.

You can be the "luck" a veteran needs today:
* $5.00 – Buy a "round" of treats for our hard-working K9s.
* Sponsor a Soldier – Can't make it to our Dust Covers Shoot on March 21st? You can still purchase a ticket for an active duty or National Guard member to attend in your place!

🐾 Honoring a Legacy: The Story of Bear 🛡️🐕‍

On National K9 Veterans Day, we reflect on the dog who started it all. For our founder, Travis Hall, that dog was Bear.

After leaving the military as a 5th Special Forces Medic and K9 Handler, Travis struggled with the transition to civilian life and combat-related trauma. He wasn’t alone in that fight—his military dog, Bear, was also grappling with the effects of combat. When Bear was allowed to retire with Travis, their bond led to a remarkable reduction in trauma symptoms and improved daily life for them both.

When Bear eventually passed away from old age, his loss inspired a new mission: rescuing high-drive breeds like German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois to place them with veterans who truly understand them.

In 2018, Travis received an urgent request to help a retired special operations veteran, a former teammate struggling with PTSD. Travis Hall used his expertise to personally train and donate a rescue dog to his friend, providing a vital source of support.

The success of this first placement led to an organic increase in demand from other veterans seeking similar aid. This overwhelming need served as the catalyst to transform a single act of compassion into the structured organization now known as Second Chance K9 Service Dogs.

Today, we honor Bear’s legacy by continuing to rescue, train, and donate elite service dogs to Special Operations Veterans battling PTS and TBI.

Help us continue Bear’s mission:
* Support our current trainees: Your donations fund the intensive training for dogs like Mongo and Luna.
* Join us on March 21st: Our inaugural Dust Covers Shoot helps fund these life-saving pairings. sck9.eventbrite.com

Happy Friday 13th!

Who says Friday the 13th has to be scary? 🔪🐾

Hi I’m Kuma, Wanna play?

Meet Kuma, our resident "Good Boy”! While he might look like he's ready for a horror movie sequel in his Chucky costume, Kuma is actually a fully trained Service Dog and Ambassador who helps train veteran handlers.

At Second Chance K9, we believe in high-performance training and high-performance fun. Whether he's practicing his public access skills or chasing down a treat in overalls, Kuma's focus is always on his mission: supporting those battling PTS and TBI.
