This week we celebrated NATIONAL VET TECH APPRECIATION WEEK, and we are here to give giant kudos to the workhorses behind our low-cost spay-neuter clinic team who are most definitely worth celebrating! No matter what veterinarian is performing surgeries for us (because we use several!), these gals work their tails off (pun intended!) to make it all come together… check-in, prep, surgery, recovery, checkout & all the little surprises in between. Their top notch teamwork, attention to detail, love of animals, and passion for our mission is how we efficiently & safely spay & neuter 35-ish dogs & cats each surgery day!

THANK YOU Brittany, Caleigh & Arianna for your commitment to the cause… 4,716 dogs & cats fixed so far this year! We appreciate these gals every single day, but THIS week we brought in appreciation-reinforcements: Dutch Bros Coffee & breakfast sandwiches from Hometowne Market on Monday (thank you, HSCMC!), Nothing Bundt Cakes on Tuesday (thank you, HSCMC!), Panda Express on Wednesday (thank you, Stacey!), and a little extra dough on Thursday to head into the weekend (thank you, HSCMC!).

HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY to our all-time favorite volunteer of the male variety! Karl started volunteering with the Humane Society waaaay back in 2009 when we first moved into our building. He quickly found his niche helping in our pet food bank and continues to show up two days per week to serve & visit with those clients! We love and appreciate you, Karl, and so do the hundreds of food bank clients you help us serve every year. We hope you have the very BEST rest of your day (and thank you for putting up with our photo-op shenanigans). 🎉🥰🥳

TRUNK OR TREAT DONATION CHALLENGE - We have 11 rescue organizations joining us 2PM-4PM this coming Sunday (Oct 25) for the 4th Annual Multi-Rescue Trunk or Treat for Pets & Their People event! We are continuing our tradition of matching donations to our Spay It Forward fund (up to $1,000!) collected in-office during the event AND online via this post. Funds will be split between participating rescues for FREE SPAY-NEUTER SURGERIES at our clinic.

Vetting and fixing adoptable animals is the single biggest expense for any rescue organization. These groups are saving lives in our community every day, and every dollar truly matters... especially when it's being matched!! Additional matching sponsors are welcome to make funds go even further... just message us!

We will also be collecting food, litter & other pet supplies in our lobby during the event!

Filling empty shelves - one bag, one can, one pound - at a time. Staff & clients from Massage Envy - Madison Commons & Black Cat Plant Shop came through for us again this year during their August donation drive in memory of their sweet George.🐈‍⬛

215 # dry dog food
265 # dry cat food
294 cans wet cat food
35 # cat litter
16 packages dog treats
18 packages cat treats
And, lots & lots of other pet supplies, too!

The Humane Society’s Pet Food Bank has been in existence since 2003 helping low income families or those enduring temporary hardships offset pet food expenses. This important program helps keep pets OUT of the shelter and with the families who love them.

Pet owners are allowed to come get food once every 3 months, and all pets must be spayed & neutered (or on the schedule to be done) to remain on the program. The Pet Food Bank is staffed on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays from Noon-2pm.

We serve about 600 low income families annually giving away on average nearly 17,000 lbs. of dry dog food; 6,000 lbs. of dry cat food; 7,000 lbs. of cat litter; and hundreds of cans of wet cat & dog food.

Our Pet Food Bank relies 100% on donations from our community, which includes huge donation drives like this one!! Donations can be dropped off Monday-Saturday between 9am-2pm. Opened bags are fine so long as they have been safely stored & still in original packaging.

TODAY WE CELEBRATED 50,000 SPAY-NEUTER SURGERIES!

After 9 years of serving our community via our low-cost spay-neuter clinic, today we celebrated our 50,000th SURGERY!!! This milestone goes to KIRBY, a neighborhood stray who has fathered who knows how many litters in his approximate 5 years of life. Sadly, he tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) today, which he likely contracted through mating or fighting while living on the streets. Now that he’s fixed & integrated as a family pet, he should have several years of love left to give & receive. This handsome 14-pounder has traded his prowling days for a cute little heart tattoo on his belly indicating he is fixed.

As our 50,000th surgery, Kirby’s neuter was FREE today & he went home with a gift bag filled with toys & treats. He was a model patient this morning cooperating fully with our photo goals (& we only felt judged by him a little bit):

Today’s milestone is possible because of the commitment & leadership of our Director AND many high volume spay-neuter professionals who have contributed their talents & passion to our cause & clinic. We are able to do the volume we do at hugely affordable prices, because our process is VERY streamlined, our team is the MOST experienced, and spay-neuter is ALL we do without distraction while keeping safety & quality of care at the forefront of it all.

FUN CLINIC FACTS!
• Fundraised our tails off from 2009-2017 to ensure we were financially prepared to bring this clinic to Clarksville, which opened its doors in August 2017
• 59 veterinarians & 18 veterinary techs/assistants have contributed to our high volume spay-neuter efforts over the last 9 years, & we are so very thankful for every single one of you!
• 16,706 male cats fixed to date
• 16,560 female cats fixed to date
• 8,826 male dogs fixed to date
• 7,911 female dogs fixed to date
• 5,580 feral/community cats have been fixed (w/ ear tips) – avg 697/year & 58/month): 2,657 by kind Samaritans + 2,923 by Cats MEOW TNR program
• 12,686 pets microchipped (4,561 dogs & 8,125 cats)
• 5,929 is the highest # of surgeries done for a single rescue organization: WINNER Puurrrfect Paws Rescue
• 2,031 shelter dogs & cats were fixed for Montgomery County Animal Care & Control to help them get out of the shelter & into their new homes
• Daily surgery record: 107 (Cat Meowathon Day on 8/16/24)
• Annual surgery record: 7,191 in 2024
