Our Story

Women Veterans of America is a non-profit veterans service organization that is open to all women who have honorably served in any branch of our armed forces, during any era, as well as to women currently serving. The origins of WVA date back to September 1990, when four women veterans in a support group at the Brooklyn VA hospital decided that someone needed to look out for the interests of women veterans. Since that time, additional chapters have formed across the country and in the past 6 years, WVA has moved forward to redefine itself as a progressive service organization.

The vision of Women Veterans of America is to be a voice for women who have and are serving in the United States Armed Forces and act as an advocate for women veterans’ rights, issues, benefits and recognition. We shall advocate for all women veterans and for women currently serving in the military.

The goals of Women Veterans of America are:

  • Ensure the best possible care is given to women veterans by the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
