This month’s theme is Health & Nutrition, and we’re excited to bring families resources, activities, and information focused on building healthy habits and supporting children’s well-being.

Families will have the opportunity to connect with local organizations, explore community resources, and take home fun nutrition-themed giveaways while supplies last.

📚 Join us for our Annual Book Fair and help keep the joy of reading going all summer long!

Families are invited to browse a wide selection of FREE books for children of all ages, from board books for little ones to chapter books and young adult titles for older readers. Reading together helps build language skills, spark imagination, and create lasting memories, and we're excited to help families build their home libraries!

Children must be present to receive books, and each child may select up to five books while supplies last.

Whether your child loves adventure stories, picture books, mysteries, or anything in between, there's something for every young reader!

Plus, we'll be joined by local community organizations offering resources, activities, and information for families. It's a great opportunity to pick up books, connect with community partners, and learn about programs available throughout Butte County.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

On Memorial Day, we reflect with gratitude on the sacrifices made by those who served, and we hold space for the families and loved ones who carry that loss every day.

In observance of the holiday, Valley Oak Children’s Services offices will be closed today, Monday, May 25.

We wish our community a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Today is National Provider Appreciation Day, and we’re still smiling from Wednesday night’s Provider Appreciation Social at The Commons! 🍕

More than 70 child care providers and staff members came together for an evening of pizza, laughter, trivia, and connection, and it was such a wonderful reminder of the incredible community of caregivers here in Butte County.

The work providers do every day matters deeply. You create safe places, support families, encourage learning, comfort children, and help build the foundation of our community in ways that often go unseen.

We were so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate you, spend time together, and simply say thank you.

To all of our providers: thank you for the care, patience, dedication, and heart you bring to this work every single day. We appreciate you not just today, but all year long!

Our 2026 Childcare Provider Appreciation Day Social is happening Wednesday, May 6 from 6:00–8:00 PM at The Commons Social Emporium, and we’re looking forward to an evening of connection, fun, and a well-deserved break with the people who do so much for children and families in our community.

We’ll have pizza, games, and time to relax and connect with fellow providers and staff. Attendees must be registered to attend, as space is limited for this private event.

We are so grateful for the support that helped keep kids safe at this year’s Children’s Faire!

A heartfelt thank you to Chico Velo and Butte County Public Health for their generous donation of bike helmets, and to the Butte County Child Abuse Prevention Council for providing funding for swim vests.

Because of your support, we were able to give away hundreds of helmets and swim vests to local families, helping children stay safe while they play, explore, and grow 🚲🛟

This is what community looks like. Thank you for being part of our village!

We’ve reserved The Commons Social Emporium for a private evening just for providers to relax, connect, and enjoy some well-deserved time together. There will be pizza and non-alcoholic beverages provided, games, and a fun, casual atmosphere to spend time with colleagues and friends.
