The Lynn Sage team attended the American Society of Clinical Oncology () Annual Meeting in Chicago this past weekend, joining thousands of researchers, clinicians, advocates, and industry leaders dedicated to advancing cancer care.

We left inspired by the incredible progress being made in breast cancer, from presentations by Chicago Breast Cancer Research Consortium leaders Dr. Rita Nanda of on advances in triple-negative breast cancer treatments and Dr. William Gradishar of on the year’s most significant developments in breast cancer care, to promising new data highlighting the impact of Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) across breast cancer subtypes.

Beyond the science, ASCO provided valuable opportunities to connect with community members, researchers, and partners who share our commitment to improving outcomes for patients.

Chicago was truly the center of the oncology world, and we are energized by the ideas, collaborations, and innovations that will help drive the future of breast cancer care. We remain proud to support the groundbreaking work happening right here in our community and furthering our mission to eradicate breast cancer.

Breakthroughs like this are exactly why Lynn Sage invests in bold, innovative research.

New findings published in .portfolio from Lynn Sage Scholar Dr. Bin Zhang and researchers uncovered how an FDA-approved asthma drug may help improve treatment for aggressive cancers, including triple-negative breast cancer.

The study found that blocking a key inflammatory pathway helped restore the immune system’s ability to fight tumors and improved response to immunotherapy in preclinical models. This is a promising step toward new treatment options for patients facing some of the toughest breast cancers.

We are proud that the Lynn Sage Scholar Award helped support this groundbreaking work and grateful to the researchers driving progress forward every day.

Could limiting sugar help slow or prevent the spread of breast cancer? 🔬💗

That’s one of the questions driving the research of Dr. Kay F. Macleod, a Lynn Sage Scholar and Professor at the University of Chicago’s Ben May Department for Cancer Research.

Dr. Macleod’s research focuses on understanding how breast cancer spreads, specifically the role of a gene called NIX, which is linked to more aggressive cancers and poorer outcomes. Her team is studying how cancer cells use energy sources like glucose to fuel metastasis by observing how NIX alters mitochondrial metabolism and testing how changes in glucose levels impact cancer cell behavior.

The research will also examine whether a nutrient-rich, glucose-depleted diet could reduce the metastatic burden in the lungs, with the goal of better understanding how mitochondrial function influences the metastatic process and validating NIX as a future therapeutic target.

Through Lynn Sage Scholar funding, research like this is helping uncover new possibilities for preventing and stopping metastatic breast cancer, advancing hope for patients and families everywhere.

Early detection can save lives. 💗

This Women’s Health Month, we’re reminding women of the importance of breast cancer screenings and early detection. Screening mammograms can help detect cancer earlier, when treatment is often more effective and outcomes are better.

At Lynn Sage, we’re also proud to support research that could transform how screenings are approached in the future. Lynn Sage Scholar and Senior Investigator Award Recipient Dr. Dezheng Huo is studying how artificial intelligence and genetic markers can work together to create more personalized breast cancer risk prediction models, helping guide when women should begin screening and how often they should be screened based on their individual risk.

By investing in innovative research and encouraging proactive care, we move closer to better outcomes for women everywhere.

Women’s Health Month is a reminder that investing in women’s health means investing in research, prevention, early detection, and access to care.

This year alone, more than 310,000 women in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and 1 in 8 women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Yet thanks to advances in research and treatment, breast cancer death rates have declined by 44% since 1989.

Progress is possible because of research. At Lynn Sage, we’re proud to fund innovative breast cancer research and support the next generation of physicians and scientists working to improve outcomes for women everywhere.

This AAPI Heritage Month, we honor and celebrate the strength of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, while raising awareness about the growing impact of breast cancer affecting AAPI women and families.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among AAPI women, and incidence rates are rising faster in AAPI women than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. Among women under 50, cases have increased by nearly 50% since 2000.

Early detection, access to screening, and continued investment in research are critical to changing these outcomes for future generations.

At Lynn Sage, we remain committed to funding innovative breast cancer research that improves care and advances health equity for all.
