With school out for the summer, many children will lose access to the meals they normally receive during the school day. The Summer EBT program, also known as SUN Bucks, provides families with a one-time benefit of $120 per eligible child, helping parents fill the gap and purchase the foods their children want and need.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is back for the summer. This program connects older adults with local produce, ensuring they have access to nutritious foods that are essential to their health. Participants receive a set of coupons they can redeem at farmers markets for a variety of fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey.

Approximately 75% of seniors in Chicago live on a fixed income, making it difficult for them to afford groceries, especially fresh, local produce, which is often expensive.

Our work with the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program has had a measurable impact on older adults in Chicago. Last year, we distributed 11,000+ coupons. The program not only supports the health and well-being of seniors but also strengthens local economies by promoting the sale of locally grown fruits and vegetables.

We are excited to announce the official opening of the Statesmen Market at Kennedy-King College.

One in five college students nationally experiences food insecurity. In Chicago, 50% of City Colleges students report food insecurity. For students balancing school, work, and family responsibilities, reliable access to nutritious food is critical to staying on track toward a degree, and ultimately, a sustaining-wage career.

Created in partnership with City Colleges of Chicago, Statesmen Market is stocked with fresh produce, protein, dairy, pantry staples, meals-to-go, and other necessities, all in a welcoming space where students can shop for free with dignity and pride.

Statesmen Market helps students focus on their education instead of worrying about their next meal.

For more information, including market hours or how to receive public benefits assistance, Kennedy-King students should visit their Wellness Center and see posted hours for service.
