Our partner, Las Tias in Nicaragua, is creating opportunities for long-term independence and sustainability through vocational programming. Through hands-on classes in barbering, beauty, sewing, piñata making, carpentry, and baking, participants are gaining practical skills that can lead to self-sufficiency.

These programs, designed and led by Las Tias, equip community members with the tools they need to build an income, confidence, and opportunity for themselves and their families.

Every Tuesday, our partner Entreamigos offers a space for students in the Scholarship Program to grow their emotional intelligence - an essential skill that shapes how young people understand themselves and connect with others.
Through crafts, reflection activities, and open conversations, students learn how to identify their emotions, understand why they're feeling them, and practice healthy tools for emotional regulation.
As scholarship student Esahú shared at our Spring Forward event last month:
""I have learned to manage my emotions, and in my classes we talk about self-esteem, confidence, and what it means to think before reacting.""
Programs like these remind us that education is about much more than academics. By investing in emotional intelligence, Entreamigos is helping students build a strong foundation for their future.

Hope Community School is building a brand-new secondary school building! With Hope providing education for students from Pre-K through grade 12, they need more space for their studies. The vision for this project is a 2-story school building that will not only expand classroom space, but also improve sanitation systems on Hope's campus. This is an incredible accomplishment for Hope, and we are so grateful to witness their growth and expansion. Every brick laid represents greater access to education and bright futures.

Unity Day was two weeks ago, and we're still energized by the experience! Thank you to everyone who joined Spark and We Grow Chicago to clean, connect, and celebrate community. 30 Spark volunteers helped clean blocks, streets, and vacant lots, and worked in the Peace Garden to support the beautification of West Englewood.
Associate Board member Erin, who has attended Unity Day for the last 3 years shared, ""I love going Unity Day! It's such a powerful reminder of how much is possible when people come together to take care of their community.""
Keep an eye out for our Englewood Strong fundraising campaign this July so you can join us in continuing to invest in this incredible community.

Last month Las Tías welcomed the Ministry of Health (MINSA) to conduct a workshop on the prevention of teen pregnancy. During the session, MINSA highlighted several of the primary factors giving rise to this issue, including the lack of communication between parents and children, along with a lack of accurate information and education on the topic. Parents also received guidance on how to build trust with their children and approach these important conversations openly and effectively.
Teen pregnancy often limits educational opportunities and can create barriers to long-term economic independence for young women. At Las Tias, they are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where students can continue their education, pursue their goals, and build bright futures.

At our Spring Forward event last month, we had the privilege of hearing from Regina, a 6th grader at Hope Community School. Regina and her sister, Nandila, moved into the Hope House orphanage several years ago. Before becoming part of the Hope family, neither girl had the opportunity to attend school. Today, Nandila attends a nearby school for the blind, and both sisters are learning, growing, and gaining access to the opportunities every child deserves. Regina shared, ""We have things that many schools do not have, like computers, a library, and a school counselor. I have learned how to read, write, and even use a computer - something I never imagined I’d learn."" Regina's story is a powerful reminder that access to education and resources can create real impact. Thank you, Regina, for sharing your experience!
