There are some childhoods that get interrupted too early.

Hospital rooms become part of everyday life.
Treatment schedules take over what used to feel normal.
And fear quietly settles into families already carrying more than they ever should.

That’s why this partnership between Bookwallah Organization and St. Jude India ChildCare Centres means so much to us.

Together, we’re creating spaces where children going through cancer treatment can reconnect with imagination, comfort, and moments that still feel like childhood.

Through Bookwallah’s innovative story experience, children and families at St. Jude India will have access to storybooks and Bookwallah storytelling sessions designed for emotional support during an incredibly difficult season of life.

Because children facing illness are carrying more than physical pain.

There’s fear.
Isolation.
Uncertainty.
Disrupted childhoods and emotional weight that often stays invisible to everyone else.

And sometimes, in the middle of treatment, what a child needs most is a story that lets them feel beautiful, hopeful and remind them that joy and imagination still belong to them too.

We believe healing is more than medical care.

We’re deeply grateful to the St. Jude India team for understanding how important it is to care for the inner life of a child alongside their physical treatment.

As Bookwallah continues expanding its work with children experiencing trauma, partnerships like this help us bring stories, comfort, and hope to children who need them most.

Because every child deserves more than survival.
Every child deserves the chance to laugh, dream, and live the life they choose.

If you would like to help us support this project, please consider donating to Bookwallah Organization (see profile) and message us so we can continue to share progress reports. Sessions are to begin JUNE.

Little hearts carry big feelings too. 💛

May is Mental Health Awareness Month - and at Bookwallah, every session we run, every story we share, and every library we walk into is rooted in one simple belief: that children deserve spaces where they feel heard, safe, and understood.

For children who have grown up facing trauma, loss, and hardship, the world can feel like a heavy place. That is why at Bookwallah, we don’t just build libraries — we build safe spaces. Spaces where a child can walk in carrying the weight of their past and walk out feeling just a little lighter, because a story reminded them that they are not alone. 📖

Through the power of storytelling, we work with children to help them develop empathy, build self-love, find comfort — by discovering that books can feel like home, no matter where you come from.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we bring to light something we witness every single day — children who have found a home in books. Children who arrived guarded and left with a favourite character. Children who didn’t have the words for what they felt, until a story gave them some.

💬 What’s a book or story that made you feel less alone? Drop it in the comments — we’d love to build a little list together.

Happy World Book Day! 📖🌍

Every book we read with a child at Bookwallah is chosen with intention — to help them heal, feel seen, and slowly begin to believe in themselves.

Here’s what each one carried into the room:

The Sweetest Mango – Malvika Shetty
For the child learning that sharing isn’t losing — it’s the first step to healing.

Harry and the Dinosaurs Say “Raahh!”– Ian Whybrow
For the child who needs to know that big feelings have a safe place to go.

David Gets in Trouble – David Shannon
For the child still learning that honesty is braver than any excuse.

The Smartest Giant in Town – Julia Donaldson
For the child discovering that kindness given freely always comes back.

We run imaginative libraries across 16 locations in India — safe spaces where children who have experienced trauma heal and grow through the power of stories and storytelling.

Every event has one aim - to heal a child’s heart🧡

The art workshop conducted by Kanupriya Rastogi (Art Facilitator Artistic Queen Bee | Art Workshops & Experiences) in Jungle of Book Library in Pune was based on the themes of ‘Happiness’ and ‘self expression’.

Children between ages 6 to 16 engaged in drawing and colouring activities that boosts their personal growth and provides emotional safety to those affected by trauma.

This opportunity allowed them to be more aware and expressive of their feelings and emotions. The children shared that they felt emotions that they had never expressed before while others felt calmer and became more focused throughout the activity.

Bookwallah is an organization that partners with those whose impact on children is real, visible, and lasting. We run imaginative libraries across 16 locations in India using the power of storytelling to help children affected by trauma heal, grow, and feel seen.

If this resonates with you, follow us on Bookwallah Organization or visit www.bookwallah.org to find out more!

This International Children’s Book Day, the IBBY International International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) reminds us: “Plant stories, and the world will bloom.”— celebrated every April 2nd, the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen. 🌱

At Bookwallah, we’ve seen it happen. A child who once sat in the corner, now sits up front. A child who never spoke, now leads the story. A child carrying trauma, now imagining a world where they are the hero.

One book at a time. One child at a time. 🌱

We run imaginative libraries across 16 locations in India — safe spaces where children who have experienced trauma heal and grow through the power of stories and storytelling.

This year, CYBBY also released The Little Gardener — a beautiful song composed pro bono by Giorgos Hatzipieris, inspired by this year’s theme.
We love this initiative and invite you to listen, share, and celebrate the stories that shape our world. 🌸
