The Haitian Revolution changed the course of history and demonstrated what is possible when people stand together in pursuit of freedom and human dignity. As we reflect on that struggle, we will connect its lessons to our responsibility today to participate in our democracy, organize within our communities and make our voices heard at the ballot box.
This Saturday’s Forum will also address the ongoing Haitian immigration crisis in Ohio, including the treatment of Haitian immigrants and concerns surrounding actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). We will continue to call for policies rooted in dignity, justice and humanity while standing with Haitian communities through advocacy and action.
Freedom has never depended on one generation alone. From Haiti’s fight for independence to the American Civil Rights Movement, progress has always required people to participate. We will also stand in solidarity with the people of Colombia and Indonesia following the tragic earthquakes that have devastated both nations and support relief efforts for communities in need.
