Every Saturday morning, come out and play croquet, then a round of disc golf, and catch some lawn bowling. Fun day in the park!

We need help!

Specifically with wood chipping a path through the wooded area 10 - 16. You may have noticed a log lined path aprox. 6ft wide. That path is what we need to fill with 3 inches of wood chips.

All the tools needed are available on the course behind a combination lock. If you are interested in helping us spread some course love message one of the board members or text 773-332-8526

I also have volunteer letters from the park district for any students or others needing community service hours.

Adding wild geraniums(Geranium maculatum) to the course. A spring bloomer with a pink/purple flower with 5 petals. It is aggressive, grows in clumps and shade out competing plants. We are planting it to push back against the woodland nettles and burr bearing plants.

It supports native bees, and hosts a specialist bee (Andrena distans) that relies entirely on this plant for pollen.

In folk magic, carrying a small piece of the root was believed to attract happiness and prosperity, while teas made from the flowers were said to counter love spells.

Then we also planted a Passion Flower vine hoping to bring some color to the portal on 10’s fairway.

Honeysuckle and buckthorn are still present on the course even after years of removal efforts. Once the fairways are in shape for this season we will resume removal efforts. If you are a fan of cutting and clipping and interested in joining in let us know.

American robin numbers are believed to be down across the Midwest and much of the country. An avian ecologist says what’s known about changes in the robin population should serve as a “massive warning bell.”

Cleaning the fairways have begun with 10, 11, 12 getting a trim this morning. The park district also mowed so the course is looking quite superb, probably the best ever for Memorial Day weekend.
