Illinois Collaboration on Youth We promote the safety, health & economic success of Illinois’ children

The Illinois Collaboration on Youth (ICOY) is a statewide membership association that works to lead the way for children and youth services, strengthen the network of providers, and improve outcomes for children and youth in Illinois. ICOY members have the voice and the resources necessary to advocate for an improved child welfare and youth service system throughout the state of Illinois. For more

We need your help in Colorado. Legislators there are pushing legislation that would keep child marriage legal — but limit the spousal age limit to 10 years. TEN YEARS! Tell Colorado lawmakers to pass a bill that sets the marriage age at 18, without exceptions. Governor Polis, Colorado state Repres...

We stand in solidarity and support of our friends at ACT Now as they fight back against the federal government's cancellation of Full-Service Community School funding. Please call your state legislators and tell them you support replacing this funding with state dollars!

The Illinois Collaboration on Youth condemns yesterday's Supreme Court decision in Chiles v Salazar, which will result at best to the harm and detriment of, and at worst to the death of LGBTQ+ children and youth who are forced to undergo so-called conversion therapy in the misguided belief that it will somehow “cure” them of a q***r sexual orientation or gender identity.

The United Nations has classified conversion therapy as torture. Instead of helping children and youth, research into conversion therapy practices shows that they are strongly linked to depression, trauma, suicidal ideation, su***de attempts, and su***de completion. In recognition of the fact that conversion therapy is not evidence based and thus, not only does not work, but in fact causes harm, conversion therapy in Illinois has been banned for more than a decade.

For anyone who needs support at this time, we recommend the following organizations and resources:

-Human Rights Campaign: www.hrc.org
-The Trevor Project: https://www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help/
-988 Su***de Prevention Hotline: https://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=145089
-National Center for LGBTQ Rights: https://www.nclrights.org/our-work/born-perfect/born-perfect-toolkits-resources-and-statements/

Finally, ICOY will host a LGBTQ+ Learning Community Event on Monday, April 6, from 11 a.m. - noon. Registration information is available here: https://www.icoyouth.org/event/lgbtq-learning-community-13/

We offer organizational support aimed at organizational assessment, technical assistance, professional development, strengthening infrastructure, improving governance and shoring up sustainability.
