We may not hear from them much but Mane Squeeze has been super busy educating Cheboygan youth on everything horse and has lots of pictures to show!

Since September, Mane Squeeze has been meeting 2x a month and in May started meeting weekly. In some of the photos you will see things covered such as basic horse handling skills, intro to leatherworking, horse equipment identification and care, first aid and nutrition lessons, the May 16th Silent Auction Demo, and some additional pictures from special outings.

While most of these pics have occurred during 4-H meetings, some of the special outings were outside of "4-H sanctioned" time and truly shows how close this organization brings people. This is more than just a club for most folks, it's family. The 4-H program brings all walks of people together as family and brings out the best in people! Mane Squeeze is excited for the upcoming months with the Father's Day show and clinic coming up as well as the 4th of July parade and of course the Cheboygan County Fair where the members will showcase their projects, proving that hard work and dedication pays off! We hope to see you there!

The last week of April and the month of May have once again been full of fun, flexibility, and plenty of memories for 4-H K9 Club.

Between the ice, snow, wind, recent flooding in our community, and weather that has definitely kept us guessing, this has been quite the season for dog club.

One thing our members and families (and leaders) have learned? Always be ready for Plan B!

Over the past few weeks, members gathered for a poster night at co-leader Jody’s house, followed by what we lovingly dubbed a “Willy Nilly Agility” night at co-leader Tracy’s house. Club was originally planned indoors, but when Mother Nature surprised us with a beautiful evening, we made a last-minute decision to head outside and practice agility for the very first time this year. Sometimes the best nights are the unplanned ones.

We were also excited to showcase and highlight our K9 Club during the very first 4-H Silent Auction and Demonstrations event. Handler Leah and her canine partner Maggie did a wonderful job representing our club, answering questions, and sharing their love of dogs and 4-H with the community.

Of course, with the ever-changing weather, our plans have continued to shift from week to week. One evening we fully expected to practice outdoor agility, but instead pivoted indoors at Tracy’s and spent the night working on posters and record books. Around here, we just roll with it.

Looking ahead, we are excited for evenings at the fairgrounds where we will continue practicing agility, building teamwork with our dogs, and preparing for our upcoming dog show at the fair.

Club members started the evening crafting a tee shirt with an inked fish at the Eureka Explorers 4-H Club meeting. This process, known as Gyotaku, is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, a practice which dates back to the mid-1800s. This form of maritime nature printing, where ink is applied to a fish which is then pressed onto paper, was used by fishermen to record their catches, but has also become an art form of its own. Everyone had cool shirts to take home. No fish were harmed, we use rubber fish! To give our fish prints time to dry, members then held their regular meeting wrapping up details about preparing for fair and the summer meeting on July 8th when the club will complete fair booth decor. Reminders about summer camp, the 4th of July parade, fair entries and project books were also discussed. The night ended with refreshments and the annual backyard obstacle course and fish casting practice.
