UVA Health’s Mobile Mammography Unit is coming to Loaves & Fishes on August 14 from 9 AM–2 PM, offering free mammogram screenings by appointment.

In addition to mammograms, participants can enjoy:

🍎 Nutrition counseling
🛒 Food distribution (participants may pick up pantry groceries as one of their two monthly visits)

This week, Cville Feeding 500 completed its first collaborative meal. Together, volunteers and community partners turned rescued food into homemade Vietnamese chicken noodle soup for local food assistance programs.
This effort was made possible through a collaboration between Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, Bread & Roses, Move2Health Equity, Plenty Cville, Charlottesville’s Little Free Fridges, Food Not Bombs, and Virginia Cooperative Extension. By working together, we were able to give good food a second chance and share fresh meals with our community.
Prepared meals were distributed through Loaves and Fishes, Little Free Fridges and Bread Across Borders. We are excited to build on this first success and continue creating meals that reduce food waste and help feed our neighbors.

Over the past week, we completed our annual plant distribution in partnership with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, Piedmont Master Gardeners, and CHS Urban Farm. More than 1,700 plants were distributed to pantry visitors during the event.
A huge thank you to Matt for helping coordinate and distribute plants, to the Virginia Cooperative Extension and Piedmont Master Gardeners for sharing gardening education and resources with clients, and to CHS Urban Farm for their generous plant donations. This is our third year offering the distribution, and we are grateful to everyone helping make it possible for our community.

Join us for a free community event the lower part of Washington Park on Saturday, May 30 from 11am–3pm! Healthy Streets Healthy People will feature games and kids activities, music by DJ Runway, raffles and giveaways, free bicycle drawings, cooking and gardening demonstrations, and more than 50 activity booths.

This month at the pantry, we received a large donation of pineapples. To offer a new way to use this delicious fruit, Matt made and sampled Pineapple mint iced tea during one of our distributions, using scraps from the pineapples to create a refreshing and sustainable option.
