From relocatable social housing to permanent student accommodations, modular construction is helping address diverse housing needs across the Netherlands.

During recent project visits, MBI's Director of Business Development, Dave Sikora, had the opportunity to see two examples of modular housing delivered by Daiwa House Modular Europe:

• Student Housing: A permanent modular residential development featuring 232 units.

• Social Housing: 135 relocatable housing units constructed in just seven months, designed for use on leased land for 10 years.

These projects demonstrate the versatility of modular construction in delivering housing solutions that respond to different community needs, timelines, and long-term development goals.

As World of Modular Europe gets underway in Amsterdam this week, these projects offer a look at modular construction in action across the Netherlands. On Wednesday, October 14, selected attendees for the factory tours will have the opportunity to visit Daiwa House Modular Europe and gain additional insight into its manufacturing operations.

A firsthand look at modular construction in the Netherlands!

Ahead of World of Modular Europe, MBI's Director of Business Development, Dave Sikora, is visiting the Netherlands and connecting with industry professionals working to advance modular construction across the region.

During a recent visit to a project by Ursem Modulaire Bouwsystemen and Heddes Bouw & Ontwikkeling B.V., Dave had the opportunity to see modular construction at scale. The project combines factory-built modular solutions with conventional concrete construction, demonstrating how offsite manufacturing and traditional building methods can work together to deliver high-rise residential developments.

The visit highlights the innovation taking place across the Dutch modular construction industry, a topic that will continue to be explored at the 3rd Annual World of Modular Europe, October 12–14 in Amsterdam.

We're looking forward to welcoming our largest European audience to date for three days of education, exhibits, and international networking!

There's still time to join us in Amsterdam! Register today:

Designing Volumetric for Flexibility: Adapting to Clients, Projects & Global Regulations

Hear from Andrew Ames of Tide Construction, Daniel Coleman of Vision Modular Systems UK Limited, Michael Hough of MJH Structural Engineers, and Alan Milne of the Modular Building Institute at World of Modular Europe.

Volumetric construction must balance two competing demands: the standardization needed for efficient manufacturing and the flexibility required to respond to different clients, projects, sites, and regulatory environments.

Drawing on experience delivering projects across the UK and international markets, this panel will explore how flexible volumetric platforms can maintain consistent manufacturing principles while adapting module configurations, façades, structural solutions, and compliance strategies to meet project-specific requirements.

Bringing together development, contracting, design, and manufacturing perspectives, the discussion will examine how early collaboration can address structural, fire, acoustic, energy, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the speed, quality, and repeatability of industrialized construction.

Explore how configurable design parameters and regulatory flexibility can reduce redesign cycles, streamline approvals, and support expansion across different markets. The panel will also share lessons from completed projects, followed by a moderated discussion and audience Q&A.

MBI’s presence in Europe continues to grow with the formation of MBI Benelux, a regional group bringing together member companies across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg to strengthen collaboration, share industry knowledge, and build a stronger voice for modular construction.

Led by Rob Ranshuysen of CORAM, Lawrence De Bruycker of ARDEX Group, and Pieter Schoofs of Skilpod the group is working to expand industry connections, address shared challenges, and increase awareness of modular construction among developers, policymakers, and other stakeholders.

Recently featured in Modular Advantage and PBC Today, the three chairs share insights into the group's formation, opportunities for modular construction in the region, and their plans for the upcoming World of Modular Europe, October 12–14 in Amsterdam.
