PUPDATE & RESPITE FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED: TURKEY 🦃

When Turkey arrived at his foster home, he had some questions. Important questions. Philosophical questions. Namely: what IS a couch, and what does one do with it?

Fortunately, he figured it out.

Mission accomplished, Turkey. Mission absolutely accomplished. 🛋️

Beyond his very important couch research, Turkey is doing incredibly well. He's been sleeping well through the night, woke up happy as ever, and has been bravely exploring more of the house each day. He is a total lovebug — wonderful with the whole family, including kids and other dogs. Truly, this boy loves everyone he meets. 🐾💛

He's working hard on learning to queue up for potty time outside (good boy, Turkey!). His medicine does make him drink a lot of water, so there's some extra potty action happening — but he's trying so hard and making real progress.

Now, here's where YOU come in! Turkey needs one of two things:

🏡 An ADOPTER — Turkey is currently being treated for heartworm, but he will be completely healthy and neutered before adoption is finalized. We'll walk with you every step of the way.

🌅 A SHORT-TERM RESPITE FOSTER — His current foster family is going on vacation June 6–13 and needs someone to love on this guy for the week!

🐶🌈Belinda needs a special person🌈🐶

She didnt have an easy start. Pulled from a hoarding situation, Belinda spent the early part of her life without the basics that every dog deserves- food, safety, and someone to notice her.

What that kind of beginning does to a dog is real, and with Belinda, you can still see it in the way she moves through the world- carefully, thoughtfully, taking nothing for granted.

But watch her long enough and you'll see something else too.

Curiosity. Softness. A quiet desire to connect that she's just not beginning to act on. She's figuring out other dogs. She's taking new places one careful step at a time. And the trust? It's coming- but she needs someone to help her.

Belinda is not looking for a loud house or a busy schedule. She's looking for a calm corner of the world where nobody rushes her to be anything other than exactly where she is in her journey.

A patient foster or adopter who has experience with timid dogs would be her perfect match. Someone who measures progress install moments and finds joy in them anyway.

URGENT FOSTER NEEDED: MORTY

His current foster has loved him well, but circumstances have changed and they can no longer continue. Morty needs someone to pick up where they left off — and he is absolutely worth it.

Here's what you need to know about Morty: he is completely blind, completely unbothered by it, and completely convinced he is the most important dog in any room. He plays with other dogs like he's the life of the party. He wears a bowtie like it's non-negotiable. He greets every day like it's a gift.

He is already home-tested. Already dog-friendly. Already thriving. He doesn't need someone to start from scratch — just someone willing to open their door and let this boy keep being exactly who he is.

Fostering Morty means taking in a dog who already knows how to live in a home, gets along with other dogs, and has more personality than most people you know. The only thing missing is you. 💛

✨❤️IVY IS HOME!!❤️✨

From the backseat ride with her new bestie to full on couch cuddles with dad, Ivy has wasted absolutely no time claiming every single member of her forever family as her own.

This girl has nanny dog instincts in full effect. She's been glued to her little girl's side- sprawled out on the rug together, snuggled up on the sofa while she colors, and basically never more than a paw's reach away,

Pure gentleness🥰

And it doesn't stop there. Mom's getting kisses in the kitchen and dad? Well, Ivy decided the recliner fits two just fine!

To anyone who has ever believed the myths about pit bull breeds- look at these photos. This is who they are. Sweet, devoted and caring.

Ivy, we are so proud of you, sweet girl. You deserve every bit of this love.

I was so thrilled to receive these updated videos and photos from Gigi’s adopter, Cheryl Riddle! (Videos in comments below). She was previously named Lacy, but now has a beautiful new name and an even more beautiful new life. ❤️

I’m going to be honest and transparent about this situation. Over the years, we have taken in countless neglected and sick dogs, rushed them to the vet, and somehow I managed to keep my composure. But when this tiny little girl was surrendered to us, something about her completely broke me.

From the moment I first laid eyes on her, I tried to hold it together. I stayed calm through the surrender and the drive to the vet. But the second I walked through those doors, it all came pouring out. I started ugly crying right there in the waiting room.

I’m so thankful for our friend Angela Welch with Animal Health Care Center P.C. She had never seen me like that before and immediately came out to usher me into a private room.

I still can’t fully explain what it was about this tiny little soul that hit me so hard. Maybe it was because she was so incredibly small and fragile — only 6 pounds — with a broken jaw, rotted teeth, horribly matted fur, and smelling so awful from infection and neglect. She was just pitiful.

I called our executive director, MelodieJane Whitten, that day through tears and said, “I don’t know if there’s anything we can do for her… but let’s try.” And somehow, everything aligned perfectly for this little girl.

From getting her into a specialist immediately because of another patient’s cancellation, to finding the most perfect foster, and now the most loving adopter — every piece fell into place exactly when it needed to.

I am beyond grateful that this tiny girl now gets to live the rest of her life loved, safe, spoiled, and cherished the way she always deserved.

Thank you to everyone who donated toward her extensive medical care and surgery. Because of you, she is thriving.

Her adopter sent me this message tonight:
“She’s gained 5 ounces and had a great checkup at the vet. Her bloodwork and urine tests are all trending better now that all the infection is gone!!!!”
My heart is so incredibly happy for sweet little Gigi. ❤️

WELCOME TURKEY TO DDBBR! 🦃

Somewhere out there, a beagle boy — 3 to 5 years old — was wandering alone. Covered in ticks. Underweight. Anemic. No one looking for him, no one coming.

That's where Turkey's story could have ended.

It didn't — because someone made the call, and DDBBR answered it. And because an incredible foster family opened their door without hesitation to a dog they'd never met, who arrived depleted in ways that went far deeper than just being hungry or sick.

When Turkey got to the vet, he was shut down. The kind of shut down that tells you this dog has been surviving, not living, for a long time.

But here's what Turkey never lost: trust.

He didn't fight us. He didn't bark or pull away. He let our team help him — quietly, patiently, like some part of him knew that this time, the people reaching for him were safe.

And when he was picked up from the vet to head to his foster home, his tail was wagging. He rode in the car like a champ. Calm. Brave. Ready.

He walked into his foster home like he was the healthiest, happiest, and luckiest guy ever.

Turkey is heartworm positive and working through treatment. He has Lyme disease, he's underweight, and he's anemic. He has a long road ahead — but he is not walking it alone. His foster family is giving him exactly what he's never had: consistency, safety, and someone in his corner every single day. And we are getting him all the medical care he needs.

That's what DDBBR does. That's what our fosters make possible.

We won't stop showing up for Turkey until he finds his forever. Follow along — we have a feeling he's going to be something really special.
