Through collaboration on community planting events, radio broadcasts, and hands-on environmental action, the NewGen Peacebuilders team continues to move closer to their goal of 10,000 Trees for Peace. 🌳

At Inema Arts Center in Rwanda, creativity is opening doors. Founded in 2012 by brothers Emmanuel Nkuranga and Innocent Nkurunziza, the center supports artists while creating opportunities for orphans, students, and women from vulnerable communities. More than 30 years after the genocide, their work shows what’s possible: even when a community feels fragile, it can still be rebuilt—stronger than before. 💛 Inema Arts Center

Plastic bag + science? 🌱🔬 Another hands-on STEM activity teachers learned during our Summer Institute! Through the plant transpiration “Plastic Bag Experiment,” students explore how plants “breathe” and help cool the world around them by absorbing water and releasing water v***r through tiny pores in their leaves called stomata.

Sunday, May 17, was a special day in Charlotte, NC, as former Lost Boys of Sudan, families, mentors, St. John’s Baptist Church members, and friends gathered for a “25 Years Together” event! Little that’s more exciting for teachers these days than each arrival of new tablets and other technologies for classrooms in even the most remote locations in South Sudan.

It’s Mother’s Day! We’re thinking of the women who have been called “Mama Nina, Mama Patricia, Mama Carol, Mama Jean, Mama Maggie," and so on . . . Many women we know who have been called “Mama” have a beautiful track record of nurturing and mentoring boys and young men who came to the US as the “Lost Boys of Sudan.” Most had grown up in refugee camps, orphaned or separated from their mothers and fathers due to civil war.❤️

Read more! We’re co-hosting a “25 Years Together” special event on May 17, and just announced a surprise $25K Matching Gift for schoolbuilding in South Sudan that spans Mother’s Day to Father’s Day, May 10 to June 21: https://conta.cc/48GP2ZA

Thanks to friends and long-time supporters Jean and Mark Miller for this generous and inspiring matching gift challenge! ❤️ As we celebrate Mother’s Day and look ahead to Father’s Day, we can’t think of a more meaningful way to honor those who nurture and guide the next generation than by investing in education.

But he never forgot where he came from.

In 2011, Lubo and two fellow Lost Boys - Ngor and James - launched the Raising South Sudan project to build schools in the villages they had fled. Today, three schools serve up to 1,500 children who would otherwise have none.

Lubo puts it simply: "From education comes wisdom, and from wisdom comes peace."

Jean and I believe that too. We're proud to call Lubo a friend - and in honor of this 25th milestone, we're matching every donation to Raising South Sudan up to $25,000.

Give $50, we make it $100. Give $500, we make it $1,000.
