Could the heart help reveal Alzheimer's disease before symptoms begin?

MUSC researcher Dr. Federica del Monte is studying a surprising link between heart disease and Alzheimer's, with the goal of finding new ways to diagnose both conditions earlier.

Supported by a generous anonymous donor, this research is exploring whether changes in the heart could provide early clues about what's happening in the brain – potentially creating new opportunities for treatment before disease progresses.

This work reflects the role philanthropy plays in advancing innovation through the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
