Welcome to the Board!! 🎉

Charleston Hope is thrilled to welcome two incredible new members to our Board of Directors!

Olga Biedova joins us as an Assistant Professor of Business Analytics at the College of Charleston, with a Ph.D. in Business focused on Business Analytics and a background spanning AI, data strategy, and cybersecurity. Olga will be joining our Data Committee, helping us dig deeper into program outcomes and build the kind of evidence-based thinking that keeps our mission moving forward.

Kim Sayers joins us as a Marriage and Family Therapist bringing relational leadership, strategic vision, and a genuine gift for community connection. Kim will serve as our Board Secretary, and we cannot wait to see the energy and heart she brings to this work.

We are so grateful for the perspective, expertise, and passion these two women bring to Charleston Hope as we continue equipping students and communities with the mental and behavioral health support they deserve.

And a heartfelt thank you to Southern First Bank and our Board Member, Tim, for so generously hosting us! Your partnership means so much to our mission and our community. 💙

Welcome, Olga and Kim! We are so glad you’re here.

Welcome back to school!

Our program team has been celebrating the start of a new school year by joining Meet the Teacher events across our partner schools!

As students return today, we’re feeling excited and expectant for all that this year will hold. Here’s to a year filled with growth, connection, confidence, and new possibilities. 💙

Wishing every student a joyful first day and an incredible year ahead!

Some exciting words from our Director, Emily Kerr:

“We’re expanding ‘downward’ aka ‘deeper’ in our schools so that we are able to serve ALL students in our elementary schools! This means for the first time ever we are bringing therapy, specifically Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), into our schools! This is meeting a specific need and closing a large gap of care in our schools and community!

CCPT requires very specific toys, supplies, and expression tools. If you want to help us get our rooms ready to welcome 3- and 4-year-olds this year, please consider purchasing some things off of our Amazon Wishlist!”

One of the items on our wishlist is a play food set. While it may look like a simple toy, in Child-Centered Play Therapy it becomes a meaningful tool for healing.

Our Mental Health Therapist shared:

“It’s important for exploring themes around nurture, family, health, and relationships. Children also use it to work through experiences by playing ‘restaurant’ or engaging in other imaginative play.”

Through play, children can safely express emotions, process experiences, and communicate what they may not yet have the words to say.

Every item on our wishlist helps us create a therapeutic space where our youngest students can feel safe, seen, and supported. Thank you for helping us prepare these new therapy rooms for an exciting year ahead. 💙

We’re growing... and this is a really big moment for Charleston Hope.

For the first time ever, THRIVE will be serving children ages 3–5.

Over the last seven months, our team has been working alongside Dr. Gantt to thoughtfully develop a specialized early childhood mental health track designed specifically for our youngest learners. Soon, children who have never had access to these services will receive age-appropriate support during some of the most formative years of their lives.

Now we’re getting our therapy spaces ready—and we’d love for you to help us welcome these little ones.

We’ve created an Amazon Wishlist filled with the books, sensory tools, toys, and therapy supplies that will turn these rooms into places where children feel safe, seen, and supported.

If you’d like to be part of this exciting new chapter, you can purchase an item directly from our wishlist. Every gift helps us prepare our schools and therapy rooms before students arrive.

🛍️Our goal is to have these supplies by Monday so everything is ready for our therapists and schools.
Every item you send is more than a supply—it’s an investment in a child’s future.✨

As we gear up for an incredible school year, our team has been meeting 1–2 times in-person each week to collaborate, plan, and spend time together. Every conversation, brainstorming session, and shared laugh has brought us one step closer to what's ahead and strengthened our team along the way.

A special thank you to our incredible interns for your dedication, creativity, and hard work this summer. Your contributions have made a lasting impact, and we're so grateful to have you on our team. We can't wait to see what this school year has in store! 💙

Charleston Hope embeds mental health support directly inside elementary schools across the Charleston tri-county area. Our THRIVE program places licensed clinicians, care coordinators, and graduate-level clinical interns inside schools as a permanent, trusted team — bringing therapy, family engagement, and wraparound support to the children who need it most and who are least likely to ever find their way to a therapist’s office on their own.

We have four open positions on our THRIVE school teams this fall — Care Coordinators and a Licensed Clinician. If you are someone who believes mental health care belongs in schools and you want to be part of a team that is bringing mental health directly to kid in our community — we want to hear from you!

Some of the most powerful lessons are written in a child's own words. 💙

"I love being myself because it makes me feel unique... I am positive when I have a test by doing my best. I am strong when things get hard. I am strong when I get frustrated or sad."

Through our Step-In Program, girls are learning to recognize their strengths, build confidence, and develop the resilience to navigate life's challenges and practice self-love. These daily affirmations and gratitude journals are more than just writing exercises—they're reminders that every child deserves the tools to believe in themselves.

When you invest in hope, you're investing in moments like these.

Looking for a simple way to make a difference? Purchasing an item from our Amazon Wishlist helps provide the journals, supplies, and program materials that make these life-changing conversations possible.

Together, we're helping every girl discover the strength that's been within her all along. 💙

Last week at Charleston Hope’s STEP-IN Program, partnered with Horizons at Ashley Hall, our 2nd graders explored how everyone experiences emotions differently.

The girls wrote something that brings them joy and something that makes them feel nervous or scared. As they walked around the room, they noticed that what feels scary to one person may not feel scary to someone else, and that’s okay.

This activity reminded us that every person carries unique experiences, feelings, and perspectives. When we take the time to listen and understand one another, we build empathy, kindness, and stronger connections. 💙

07/17/2026

This Friday, Charleston Hope’s STEP IN Program partnered with Horizons at Ashley Hall for a morning focused on joyful movement and self-appreciation. 💙

Movement doesn’t have to feel like a workout to make a difference.

With the 8th and 9th graders, we talked about the many ways our bodies help us every day and took a moment to appreciate all they allow us to do. Then, we put that gratitude into action with a little friendly competition and a lot of laughs during Just Dance!

Finding joyful ways to move is a powerful reminder that caring for our mental and physical well-being can be fun. Thank you for dancing with us today!
