Where in the World is our Pipe Organ?

MEET THE ORGANIST'S COMMAND CENTER

If you've never played a pipe organ, you may look at this and wonder:
"What am I looking at?"

This is the proposed new console for the Quarterman Organ, designed by A. E. Schlueter Pipe Organ Company.

The console is essentially the organist's command center.

The new project includes:
🎹 A new three-manual console
🎹 A new adjustable bench
🔌 Updated wiring
⚡ Updated power and relay systems
đź’» MIDI capabilities for recording, playback and additional digital voices

And connections that will allow the console to be moved within the balcony for concerts and special services.

The proposed console drawing was prepared by A. E. Schlueter Pipe Organ Company in 2024.

The goal?
Preserve the historic instrument while giving it the modern reliability and capabilities needed to serve another generation.

Where in the World is our Pipe Organ?

CHAPTER FOUR: WHY DID A 63-YEAR-OLD ORGAN NEED RESTORATION?

Here's something that may seem surprising:
The Quarterman Organ was already undergoing a restoration project before the water damage ever happened.

Remember: the organ was built in 1963.
When it came to Holy Spirit in 2016, Buzard undertook extensive work on the physical portions of the instrument. Pipes, windchests, valves, the blower and other components were restored or replaced.

But the electronic systems that were still functioning were largely retained.

And those electronics were now approaching the end of their expected lifespan.

Parts were becoming difficult—or impossible—to obtain.
If a major electronic component failed, Holy Spirit could potentially be without an organ for 10–12 months while the problem was addressed.

So in 2023, Holy Spirit began a fundraising campaign to address that problem.

The goal wasn't to replace our historic pipe organ.
The goal was to preserve it.

Keep following along as we continue our journey!

The Music Ministries of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church warmly invite you to join us for a special evening of remembrance, hope, and beautiful music as we observe All Saints Day.

Sunday, November 1, 2026 • 7:00 PM

This candlelight service will feature a choir of more than 60 voices singing Heather Sorenson’s REQUIEM, a moving musical journey through grief, remembrance, faith, and the promise of eternal life accompanied by Alex Wilson (Organ) and Laura Alward Ball (Piano) with members of the Charleston Symphony.

Through scripture, prayer, candlelight, and music, we will remember the saints who have gone before us, give thanks for their lives, and proclaim the hope we share in Christ.

Whether you come to remember someone dear to you, to experience the beauty of this extraordinary music, or simply to share in this sacred evening, you are welcome.

All are welcome.

Please plan to arrive early! We are anticipating a full congregation, with standing room only. We look forward to welcoming you for this meaningful evening of music, remembrance, and hope.
