October is Healthy Lung Month, a time to recognize the importance of lung health and the lifesaving impact of lung transplantation.

For double lung recipient Pete Schwob, the gift of donation has meant nearly 21 additional years of life. After living with a rare lung disease since childhood, Pete received a double lung transplant in November 2005.

Since then, Pete has watched his daughters graduate from high school and college, attended their weddings and welcomed three great-grandsons. These are moments made possible through the generosity of his donor hero.

“I want others who need a transplant to experience these types of life events.”

Today, Pete continues to honor his donor hero by advocating for donation and helping others understand the difference one donor can make.

This Healthy Lung Month, we celebrate Pete and the donor heroes who give others the opportunity for more time, more milestones and more memories.

One in eight American women will develop invasive breast cancer over their lifetime. Because of early detection and advanced treatments, the five year survival rate for breast cancer is now 92%. 🩷🩵💚

For many people, healing continues long after surgery. Recovery might include breast reconstruction, and tissue donation can help make that possible. Just last year, over 159,000 women chose to undergo breast reconstruction. Just one skin donor’s tissues can help more than five women undergoing breast reconstruction surgery.
