This 15 Year Friday we are celebrating a school that has been a cornerstone of Charleston’s history and a beloved partner of Charleston Promise Neighborhood: James Simons Montessori School! 🧡

Originally built in 1919 and one of the first schools in Charleston to desegregate in the 1960s, James Simons has a legacy as rich and meaningful as the community it serves. Nestled in the heart of Charleston, this remarkable school serves children from age three through eighth grade, guided by the Montessori approach and a deep commitment to peace, passion, and purpose.

Charleston Promise Neighborhood is proud to walk alongside James Simons in support of the children and families at the heart of this community. The dedicated staff, the nurturing environment, and the belief that every child is a natural born learner. These are the values that make James Simons such a special place and such a meaningful partner in our work.

Here is to the students, staff, and community of James Simons Montessori School. We are so grateful for you! 🌟

We are so grateful! 🧡

Recently, our CEO Sherrie C. Snipes and Director of Development & Marketing Katie Hyslop had the pleasure of attending a luncheon hosted by the Charleston Rotary Club, where Charleston Promise Neighborhood was honored to receive a generous donation in support of our mission.

The Charleston Rotary Club’s commitment to serving the community and investing in organizations that are making a real difference is something we deeply admire. Gifts like this one allow us to continue showing up for the children, families, and residents of our Neighborhood every single day.

Thank you, Charleston Rotary Club, for your generosity and for believing in the work we do. We are so honored by your support! 🌟

One of our favorite nights of the year is almost here! 🐠🧡

Last year, more than 500 students, parents, and teachers filled the for Charleston Promise Neighborhood’s annual Family Night, and it was nothing short of magical. Families explored marine life together, created lasting memories, and enjoyed a delicious hot meal from Martin’s Bar-B-Que.

This year we are doing it all over again, and we could not be more excited! Family Night at the South Carolina Aquarium is one of the most cherished traditions we have, and it is a beautiful reminder of what community looks like when everyone comes together for the children and families of our Neighborhood.

Stay tuned for more details and we will see you there! 🌟

Today we are spotlighting our incredible Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, Jonathan Johnson! 🧡✨

Jonathan’s passion for community and his deep belief that financial literacy can change the course of any individual’s life is what brought him to Charleston Promise Neighborhood, and it is what keeps him showing up for this work every single day.

With a background in banking and FinTech, Jonathan brings invaluable expertise and perspective to our board as he helps guide CPN’s strategic direction alongside Board Chair Debra Romano.

When asked what he hopes CPN will achieve in the years ahead, Jonathan did not hesitate. “My hope is that CPN becomes a model for what community-driven change can actually look like, not just locally, but nationally.”

We could not agree more, Jonathan. Thank you for your leadership, your heart, and your unwavering commitment to the children and families of our Neighborhood. We are so grateful to have you in our corner!

For anyone looking to get involved as a volunteer, donor, or community partner, Jonathan says it best: the promise CPN makes to every child is only as strong as the community that keeps it. 🧡

What happens inside a school can shape the trajectory of a child’s life. When students have access to healthcare, mental health support, caring adults, and opportunities to grow, they are better able to learn, connect, and thrive.

That is why Charleston Promise Neighborhood takes a whole-child approach across our partner schools. Because supporting students means supporting every part of their well-being. Every day, we are working alongside families, educators, and community partners to help create brighter futures for our Neighborhood.

This 15 Year Friday, we are celebrating someone who pours her heart into our Neighborhood every single day: Principal Loretta Hart of Mary Ford Early Learning and Family Center! 🧡

For years, Principal Hart has been a steadfast partner and champion for the children and families at Mary Ford, creating a warm, supportive, and empowering environment where every child feels valued and every family feels welcome. Her dedication to the students in our Neighborhood is evident in everything she does, and we are so grateful to have her in our corner.

As we celebrate 15 years of transformation within a generation, we are proud to recognize the leaders like Principal Hart who make that transformation possible. Thank you for your heart, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment to our community. Our Neighborhood is better because of you! 🌟

What a day at Jazz in the Garden! 🎷🧡

We were so excited to be part of this incredible family-friendly celebration of jazz, culture, and community here in Charleston. This year’s program centered around the legacy of the Jenkins Orphanage Band and its powerful history of supporting children through the arts, a mission that resonates deeply with everything we do at Charleston Promise Neighborhood.

CPN brought the fun with our very own interactive Jazz Jeopardy game, where attendees of all ages tested their knowledge across categories like Jazz Legends, Jazz Terms, Jazz Instruments, and more. Participants even earned tickets for free food from the one and only Rodney Scott’s BBQ! 🔥

From live music and live painting to a jazz show finale, it was a day full of inspiration, history, and joy. We are so grateful to have been part of it!
