Fallen leaves aren’t litter, they’re life. 🍂
Undisturbed patches of leaf litter, dead stems, and ground cover form the protective blanket insects, frogs, and pollinators need to Netflix-and-chill through the winter. As these materials decompose, they return nutrients to the soil, improve moisture retention, and support the microorganisms that keep ecosystems healthy.
When we clear every leaf away, we remove food, shelter, and the foundation of the natural cycle that keeps the soil alive.
Let's keep things a little wild this fall. You don’t need to build or buy anything to help overwintering insects. Get a little lazy and leave some leaves behind. Nature's got this, and the planet will high-five you for it. 🌎💚

Save the stems, save the drama, put your feet up, the pruners down, and grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Don’t cut canes, stalks, or other standing plant material which may house nesting bees or be providing anchors for overwintering pupae. 🐛
