The 2026-2027 school year at The Citadel is underway. The new Camp Commander was part of the Star of the West #1253 team manning the camp's table at the school's annual "Club Fair" (with alumni support!). This event is where incoming cadets can learn about student organizations. Several cadets indicated interested in joining the camp; the camp is poised for continued success this year.

If you have any family or friends that are SCV-eligible cadets at The Citadel, please encourage them to get in touch via this page.

Congratulations to the Star of the West SCV #1253 seniors that recently graduated from The Military College of South Carolina (est 1842).

The Camp is now on Summer Furlough and activities will resume in the Fall when The Citadel begins the new school year.

A quote to close the year:

"The Army of Northern Virginia will deservedly rank as the best army which has existed on this continent; suffering privations unknown to its opponents, it fought well from the early Peninsula days to the surrender of that small remnant at Appomattox. It seemed always ready, active, mobile; without doubt it was composed of the best men of the South rushing to what they considered the defense of their country against a bitter invader, and they took the places assigned them, officer and private, and fought until beaten by superiority of numbers. The North sent no such army to the field."

At Charleston’s Magnolia Cemetery today, camp members (along with our faculty advisor and supporters) visited the grave of Citadel Cadet Patterson who was killed in action in December, 1864 during the Confederate victory at Tulifinny.

Along with other Confederate units, the entire South Carolina Corps of Cadets engaged and defeated US Army and US Marine Corps units
attempting to cut the Charleston to Savannah railroad.

The graves of other Citadel men plus all three crews of the Confederate submarine Hunley were also visited and their stories were studied.

The camp held a special muster last night on campus at The Citadel’s Mark Clark Hall to formally induct TEN new members into the SCV. Several guests were in attendance and supper was served. Camp leadership planned and executed the event with enthusiasm and precision that would make their forefathers proud.

Star of the West #1253 is honoring their ancestors and studying their history. Interested / eligible cadets should reach out.

Star of the West SCV #1253 sends our thanks and congratulations to the United Daughters of the Confederacy who led the charge to have this RE Lee marker emplaced at Marion Square here in Charleston, SC in a very visible and high profile location on King St. It was removed without notice or due process from a nearby Charleston school in 2021.

It was a fantastic day in SC! We put back up our RE Lee Memorial Highway Marker!
