At Charleston’s Magnolia Cemetery today, camp members (along with our faculty advisor and supporters) visited the grave of Citadel Cadet Patterson who was killed in action in December, 1864 during the Confederate victory at Tulifinny.

Along with other Confederate units, the entire South Carolina Corps of Cadets engaged and defeated US Army and US Marine Corps units
attempting to cut the Charleston to Savannah railroad.

The graves of other Citadel men plus all three crews of the Confederate submarine Hunley were also visited and their stories were studied.

Star of the West #1253 (+Fort Sumter #1269 member) at the annual SC Division reunion of the Sons of Confederate Veterans held yesterday in Florence, SC with the newly elected Division Commander (middle).

The camp as a whole and the Commander and Adjutant were recognized / decorated. The camp is committed to The Charge.

The camp held a special muster last night on campus at The Citadel’s Mark Clark Hall to formally induct TEN new members into the SCV. Several guests were in attendance and supper was served. Camp leadership planned and executed the event with enthusiasm and precision that would make their forefathers proud.

Star of the West #1253 is honoring their ancestors and studying their history. Interested / eligible cadets should reach out.

We conducted our first meeting of the 2nd Semester on Jan 21st. Camp membership is at record high numbers for at least the past decade.

Star of the West SCV #1253 sends our thanks and congratulations to the United Daughters of the Confederacy who led the charge to have this RE Lee marker emplaced at Marion Square here in Charleston, SC in a very visible and high profile location on King St. It was removed without notice or due process from a nearby Charleston school in 2021.

It was a fantastic day in SC! We put back up our RE Lee Memorial Highway Marker!

The 2025-2026 school year is underway at The Citadel - The Military College of South Carolina (est 1842).

The Star of the West SCV #1253 Camp hosted a very busy table (here joined at setup by a visiting member of the faculty) at tonight’s club fair.

This event allows new cadets to see the various extracurricular organizations available to them at The Citadel.

We’re looking forward to another active year of commemorating our ancestors and studying their history.

The Citadel 2024-2025 academic year for Star of the West #1253 (est 1963) is concluding with the recent induction of eight new members into the Sons of Confederate Veterans. At a joint event with Fort Sumter #1269 (est 1965), membership certificates and pins were awarded.

The Star of the West camp flag is also displayed. A portrait of SC hero Wade Hampton III (former CSA General and SC Governor) is in the background.
