Walk and Bike to School Month is all about making the trip to school active, fun, and safe! 🚶🏽‍♀️
On Friday, October 23, 6 Walking School Buses made their way to Glenwood Elementary School in Short Hills. The Avenues in Motion team greeted students with hands-on activities focused on traffic safety and environmental education. 🎉

In 2025–2026, Avenues in Motion’s commuter programs helped reduce an estimated 1,182,249 vehicle miles traveled by helping people share rides instead of driving separately.

That’s more than a million miles of driving avoided in a single year, with fewer cars on the road and a more sustainable way to get around.

Small changes to daily commutes can add up to a meaningful impact across our region.

During Teen Driver Safety Week in New Jersey, remember that fall evenings bring lower visibility and more people walking and biking. Use extra caution at dusk. Every person on the road is someone’s loved one.

On National Move Over Day, we're reminding drivers that a simple action can make a life-saving difference. Every day, police, firefighters, EMS crews, tow operators, and maintenance workers put themselves at risk while working along our roadways. Under New Jersey's "Slow Down or Move Over" law, motorists must reduce speed and change lanes when approaching an authorized emergency vehicle that has its emergency lights on. The "Move Over Law" was created in response to a tragic death of Trooper Marc Castellano, who was struck and killed by a driver that failed to move over for Castellano's service vehicle.

Building a solar-powered car takes creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and a little trial and error. For students participating in Junior Solar Sprints, it's also a chance to explore the possibilities of science, technology, engineering, and math.

The impact can last long after race day wraps up. Of the students tracked over 11 years through 2023, 91% went on to careers in STEM.
As we celebrate 40 years of Avenues in Motion, we're proud to help spark curiosity and support the next generation of innovators.
