Contrary to popular belief, the Gettysburg Campaign did not end at the banks of the Potomac on July 14th, but deep in Central Virginia two weeks later along the line of the Rappahannock River. The two weeks that followed was a grand chess match between Meade and Lee. The ensuing two weeks of hard marching, cavalry combats, heavy skirmishing, and set-piece fighting threatened to escalate into a major engagement with the potential to end the war in Eastern Theater, but it was far from over.

Jeffrey Hunt is the Director of Texas Military Forces Museum at Austin, Texas, and an adjunct Professor of History at Austin Community College. He holds a bachelor's degree in government and a master's degree in history, both from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Hunt is a prolific author of Meade and Lee after Gettysburg: The Falling Waters to Culpepper Court House
