The PFLAG National office—which we respectfully acknowledge is on Piscataway and Nacotchtank (Anacostan) land—is closed today in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day. 🪶

We are PFLAG proud to honor the community all year long, including the launch of our newest PCC group dedicated to Two-Spirit and LGBTQ+ Indigenous relatives, the PFLAG Connects: Two-Spirit & Indigenous Circle; the re-launch of our Indigenous-led chapter, PFLAG Native Metro Phoenix; and our investment in Bay Bank, founded and solely owned by the Oneida Nation.

Guidelines to those who want to have a welcoming school-

When students trust us with who they are, we have an opportunity to show them that their school community can be a place of belonging. Every educator and school staff member has a role in creating that environment, not only for LGBTQ+ students but for every student.

SUCCESS! 🎉 At our virtual text bank with the League of Women Voters this week, PFLAG advocates contacted 112,000 young voters to make sure they have what they need to cast their ballot this election!

Huge thanks to all of our volunteers for supporting this crucial work and helping us get out the vote. 🗳️

On the night of October 6, 1998, Matthew met Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson at the Fireside Lounge in Laramie, Wyoming. McKinney and Henderson decided to give Shepard a ride home. They subsequently drove the car to a remote, rural area, and proceeded to rob, pistol-whip, and torture Shepard, tie him to a fence, and leave him to die–all because he was gay.

It was reported that Shepard was beaten so brutally that his face was completely covered in blood, except where it had been partially washed clean by his tears.

This crime was the impetus for the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Take a moment to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you today. Take a moment to erase hate in your community however you can.
