The CoC team had the opportunity to go to a Cave Escape Room the night before the Full CoC Meeting. Stark Caves was such a beautiful destination to have an Escape Room. We were able to get out with TWO Minutes to spare, now that's TEAMWORK!

We need to address homelessness with compassion, not punishment. Fines and arrests only worsen the problem. Effective solutions focus on affordable housing and supportive services. Advocacy groups are fighting against harmful laws and promoting person-centered, evidence-based responses. It's crucial to understand these issues and support approaches that truly help those in need.

🌟 Supporting Foster Youth: The FYI Voucher Program 🌟

The Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Voucher Program, highlighted by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, is making a significant impact by providing rental assistance to young people exiting foster care who are at risk of homelessness. This vital piece bridges the gap for those transitioning out of care, offering much-needed support through housing authorities, child welfare agencies, and Continuums of Care.

By stabilizing housing for these vulnerable youth, the FYI Voucher Program is giving them a better chance at independence and security. Together, we can help create a brighter future for all young people leaving foster care. 🏡✨

Homelessness among older adults is a growing issue in Missouri. A recent UCSF report highlights that many homeless adults are 50+, with high housing costs and low income as major factors. To address this, Missouri can expand affordable housing, provide financial and legal support, improve access to healthcare, and embed racial equity in all efforts. Let's work together to ensure our older adults live with dignity and stability.

We want to take a moment to highlight the YHDP this week!

YHDP is the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project and it is a project awarded to our community from HUD to address the specific issue of youth homelessness. We have been awarded numerous innovative projects to gather data about what works in our community to help youth and young adults who are experiencing homelessness, from a joint transitional housing and rapid rehousing project to supportive services and navigation through the system, and projects such as our crisis peer host homes and hotel motel which are very new in conception and implementation(were among one of the first communities to do this !). YHDP has been designed directly by the Youth Action Board comprising of youth and young adults with lived experience as the best-identified solution for youth homelessness in Missouri, and have been at the heart of the projects through the entire process! Along with being partners with the Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri, we strive to keep Youths in good hands.

The June Full CoC Membership Meeting is approaching quickly! We want to make sure you have the information if you plan on attending.

Our own Amanda Statler had this to say about being a part of the Day of Action last month in Jefferson City:

"Participating in The Day of Action provided valuable insights. Contributing to discussions with senators and their staff to address SB 1336 was enlightening. Connecting with fellow CoCs and members in Missouri highlighted the collective effort and unity within the group."

Amanda went with Nathaniel and Emily to be an advocate for Empower MO, who we work closely with to help the homeless cause.
