We had a huge disaster today at Kellerman Lorimier Hall. They were turning on the air conditioning for the summer and a pipe sprung a leak in the ceiling in my office, which was the city manager‘s office and the original kindergarten room in Lorimier school.
Water collected in the ceiling and then the ceiling caved in on my desk and broken pieces went all over the room. When I got there, there was water over an inch deep in the hall and everyone was trying to use water vacuums. We immediately called our insurance guy and Servpro and then continued to work on it for the next 10 hours. Everything from my office was soaked and is now in the hall. Fortunately, no exhibits were involved, but my office is a total disaster. We put Oriental rugs out in the sun on the parking lot and Bert washed them with a hose to get all the dissolved ceiling materials out of them.
We have a huge event on Sunday for the 250th birthday, and are thankful it is on the parking lot.
We owe a big thank you to everyone who came to help clean up the mess. Abbie Kidd, Suzanne Camp, Brent James and Kaitlyn (our new employee) worked all day to to conquer the mess. Friends are truly a treasure.
It was a sad day, but we laughed a lot and told each other we were making memories. There are many things that I hope we can repair, dry out, clean, and rearrange to someday get back to normal. I thought we were busy before, but I had no idea that this day was coming. ‼️‼️‼️😳
