🏆 Celebrating a Lifetime of Dedication: The IBT President's Medal

At our monthly meeting on October 11, Local 776 President Spencer Dearth had the honor of presenting a prestigious award on behalf of IBT General President Sean O’Brien to Brother Leo Deaner.

The Teamsters President’s Medal recognizes extraordinary commitment to the labor movement. Leo's incredible career spans over five decades—starting as a shop steward in 1968, serving as a Local 776 Business Agent, and later leading as Chief of Staff to General President James P. Hoffa.

Leo also left a permanent mark on our union's history, spearheading the creation of the Teamsters Labor History Research Center at George Washington University and safeguarding decades of primary archives for future generations.

We were joined by Bret Caldwell, IBT Deputy Chief of Staff, to celebrate Leo's monumental vision. As President Dearth noted: "Today, we recognize Brother Leo Deaner for a lifetime of work that strengthened the International Brotherhood of Teamsters' historical record and ensured future generations will understand the Teamsters Union's true legacy."
