My sweet mum sent Trump a birthday card. In it, she urged him to study the the gospel of John to familiarize himself with the life of Jesus and to seek out a mature Christian mentor. She suggested Franklin Graham. Whuddya think? His appearance at the RNC was probably long in the works. Or maybe not. Either way, I think my mum is pretty wise and pretty cool.

Looking forward to hearing Bob this evening at Hershey Park Stadium. You don't need a weatherman to tell you how wretchedly hot we're going to be, though.

"Yesterday, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, I discovered that:
1. The Daikon' ductless mini-split' unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman, Incorporated unleashed a deluge that not only saturated the hardwood floor in my dining room, flowed onto bookshelves and drawers in the room below, and drenched 25 family photo albums in the process.

2. The water from the Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, pooled atop and between each section of my quarter-sawn oak Stickley barrister bookcase.

3. The water from the Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, seeped inside each section of the bookcase.

4. The water from the Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, ran onto particularly important books, framed photographs, as well as four small wooden boxes containing four of my dog's cremains.

5. In past years, water from a different Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, emitted sufficient water to cause a 12' by 5' section of the upstairs floor to crash through to the main floor. All furniture and items in that 12' by 5' section were so water-damaged that they had to be discarded. Water ran behind the plaster, not dry-wall, walls and into the wiring contained within the walls. I had to make an insurance claim to have that water damage caused by the Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, repaired.

6. In past years, water from yet another Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit emitted sufficient water to destroy and cause me to have to replace an entire wall of built-in cabinetry. This time, I had to make an insurance claim to have the water damage caused by the Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, repaired.

7. In past years, four of the six "ductless mini-split" units sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated simply have not worked. They do not cool. They do not heat. They hang on the wall and blink.

8. Throughout these years of destruction and distress caused by the six 'ductless mini-split' units sold to me by Brian Endersy H.L. Bowman Incorporated, the financial burden has been significant. Brian Enders owner/operator of H.L. Bowman, Incorporated, has consistently refused to rectify the problem, adding to the financial strain.

9. The first reason Brian Enders says he refused to rectify the problem: When the ceiling caved in from the upstairs unit and the cabinetry was ruined by the downstairs unit, Brian Enders offered substandard assistance. He sent a contractor to my home to spackle over water-damaged plaster, thus sealing water inside the walls. When I saw the inferior repairs Brian Enders was offering, I stated that I was going to call my lawyer. Brian Enders or his associate said that because I had threatened legal action, his company would no longer serve me. No legal action was taken because the lawyer I contacted advised that the cost of bringing suit would outweigh any benefit.

10. The second reason Brian Enders says he refused to rectify the problem: a) When the ceiling caved in from the upstairs unit and the cabinetry was ruined by the downstairs unit and Brian Enders offered substandard assistance, I wrote bad reviews of Brian Enders and his company, H. L. Bowman, Incorporated, "all over the internet." (The company's words.) Yes. I did, indeed, write bad reviews of Brian Enders and his company, H. L. Bowman, Incorporated, "all over the internet" and will continue to do so until Brian Enders and his company, H. L. Bowman, Incorporated, make the six Daikon "mini-split" units they installed in my home work properly.

11. Because Brian Enders and his company, H. L. Bowman, Incorporated, refuse to help me, I have paid five other companies, as well as one private contractor, to come to my home to diagnose and repair the six Daikon "ductless mini-split" units. Each one has been unable to do so. Each one says that there is something so faulty about the installation of these units that it is impossible to determine what is wrong with them. The private contractor advised that each unit needed to be re-installed.

12. On Saturday, June 22, 2024, when I first discovered that the Daikon "ductless mini-split" unit, sold to me by Brian Enders and installed by H.L. Bowman Incorporated, was again spitting water, I tried to set up a service call with H.L Bowman, Incorporated, using a form on their website.

13. On Saturday, June 22, 2024, I was surprised and delighted to receive a text from H.L. Bowman confirming an appointment for Monday, June 24, 2024, with a note indicating that on the day of the service, I would receive a call 30 minutes before the technician arrived.

14. On Monday, June 24, 2024, I instead received a phone call from H.L. Bowman informing me that they are too busy serving their VIP customers to send a technician out to serve me.

A recent conversation prompted me to do a little research on the word "woke." Rather than share a bunch of links that folks are unlikely to read anyway, I decided to distill what I gleaned from various outlets into the following list of bullet points. Please,Black friends or white friends who have done their homework, if anything I have typed is incorrect, correct me. If there is one thing I have learned, it is not in the province or white people to assign meaning to "woke." But most of my readers are white and my purpose is to inform them of what this white person discovered online.

=The term "woke" has a long history.

=In 1920, social activist Marcus Garvey used the words "Wake Up" and "Woke" as a call to action: “Wake up Ethiopia! Wake up Africa! Let us work towards the one glorious end of a free, redeemed, and mighty nation. Let Africa be a bright star among the constellation of nations.”

=The term "woke" and its conjugates was used in Black protest songs dating back to the early 20th century.

=In 1938, Lead Belly, used the word "woke" in a song about The Scotsboro boys, nine African-American male teenagers unfairly accused of ra**ng two white women in 1931, given three rushed trials with poor legal representation, and all but one, a 13-year-old, sentenced to death despite the fact that there was no medical evidence that r**e had taken place, sang, “So I advise everybody, be a little careful when they go along through Alabama - stay woke, keep their eyes open.”

=In 1940, the Negro Mine Workers in advocating against discriminatory pay used the word "woke" in their statement to the United Mine Workers of America"We were asleep. But we will stay woke from now on.”

=In 1962, the Harlem-based writer William Melvin Kelley wrote an essay for the New York Times title, "If You're Woke, You Dig It",

=From there, the word "woke" entered African American Vernacular English used in American street and youth culture, as an admonishon to stay alert to discrimination and refuse to be placated.

=In 2014, the word "woke" became politicized after the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, sparked the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.

Eventually, the word "woke" became an all-encompassing term for leftist political ideology, "used by people on the left as shorthand to signal progressiveness and social justice."

=In 2017, the word “woke” was added to the Oxford English Dictionary and was defined as “being ‘aware’ or ‘well-informed’ in a political or cultural sense”.

=Gradually, those on the political right co-opted and weaponized the word, using it to dismiss and denigrate those on the political left.

=Some other words and phrases “toxicised” by right-wing speakers are “politically correct,” “social justice warrior,” “cancel culture,” and “snowflake.”

=Because of the negative connotations imposed on it by the political right, "those on the political left feel they can no longer use the word 'woke' to describe themselves."

Finally, here is the NAACP’s 2023 resolution to reclaim the word “woke” As Part of African American Culture:

"WHEREAS, Black history is a critical aspect of American history and has shaped American culture, including the evolution of language; and

WHEREAS, The words "Wake Up" and "Woke" have served as a call to action as conveyed by social activist Marcus Garvey who stated, "Wake up Ethiopia! Wake up Africa", and the Negro Mine Workers who in 1940 issued the statement, "We were asleep. But we will stay woke from now on," in advocating against discriminatory pay; and

WHEREAS, The term "Woke" was first highlighted in the 1962 essay, "If You're Woke, You Dig It", featured in the "New York Times" by Harlem-based writer William Melvin Kelley who documented the cultural appropriation and distortion of language, resulting in certain idioms being abandoned by their original Black creators; and

WHEREAS, The term "Woke" has been similarly misused, as traditionally and white-focused media have reframed "Woke" as trendy new slang, eroding its cultural connection and separating the term from its historical grounding in social justice; and

WHEREAS, Six decades later, anti-Black racists have engaged in a similar exercise of cultural appropriation to weaponized and misdefine the term "Woke", as evidenced by the "Stop W.O.K.E. Act", specifically targeting the teaching of American history and Black educators; and

WHEREAS, Black educators are more likely to teach subjects that incorporate an inclusive view of history, and legislation like the "Stop W.O.K.E. Act" threatens the free speech and livelihood of teachers, and the quality of education received by all students, most recently students in Florida.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the NAACP affirms the term "Woke" and its historical connection to Black history, Black liberation movements, and social justice.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the NAACP through its units encourages a historically accurate and correct use of the term "Woke" when its misuse is identified.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the NAACP condemns cultural appropriation, misuse of Black idioms, and specific efforts by anti-Black racists to distort and redefine the specific term "Woke."

Personally, this morning’s little Google adventure has “woke” me to the fact that the word “woke” is not mine to use.
