Sometimes the best surprises come on four paws!!!❤️

Today we got an unexpected visit from a very special former PAWS resident, Sheriff! Sheriff found himself at our shelter a few different times as a stray before eventually becoming part of the PAWS family while he waited for his forever home. He quickly stole our hearts, and saying goodbye when he was adopted was bittersweet.

Seeing him walk through our doors today absolutely made our day. He looked happy, healthy, and so loved — everything we could have hoped for. The timing was even more special because we had just been talking about him the other day!

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Watching our former shelter pets thrive in their homes is the greatest gift, and getting surprise visits from them is even better.

Thank you to Sheriff’s family for stopping by and sharing him with us. Once a PAWS dog, always a PAWS dog. ❤️🐾

Who remembers Guinness?!?

Today, on his 4th birthday, we wanted to celebrate one of the most unforgettable dogs to ever come through our doors. ❤️

Guinness first came to us as a puppy from Georgia on 8/11/22, and later re-entered our care on 1/3/24 after being surrendered. Over time, he became more than just a shelter dog to us, he became one of those dogs everyone knew, rooted for, and loved deeply.

Goofy, loud, dramatic, stubborn, hilarious, and larger than life in every possible way… anyone who met Guinness remembers him.

As the months passed, we hoped over and over that the right person would come along for him. Someone who would understand his big personality and love him exactly as he was.

And somehow, against all odds, Guinness didn’t just find a home… he found a dream.

On 6/24/25, Guinness left the shelter for the last time. Today, he spends his days living on his very own island in Maine with a family that absolutely adores him.

His adopters recently sent us the sweetest update telling us Guinness has become the household “Quality Control Officer,” making sure every meal meets his standards, “stress testing” the sofa in front of the woodstove, demanding daily beach walks, and sneaking under the blankets every night to provide emotional support during island storms. And honestly… it all sounds exactly like him. ❤️

For so long, Guinness waited while we wished every day someone would see what we saw in him. Now, seeing him running on the beach, snuggled up by the fire, and so deeply loved feels almost impossible to put into words.

Happy 4th Birthday, Guinness. You will always be one of the most special dogs we’ve ever known. ❤️

Swipe to see Guinness through the years, from shelter dog to island king. 👑🐾

We love you Guinness. Happy Birthday, baby boy.

🧡Mo’s adoption fee has been paid!! 🧡

Mo is still waiting for his forever family 🐾💛

And honestly, we can’t understand why.

We love this boy so much. He has a heart of gold, gets along well with dogs, kids, and people, and is always happy to spend time with those he loves. With cats, he does tend to fixate, so a home that can manage that would be best.

One of Mo’s favorite things in the world is being outside. Whether he’s exploring, enjoying the fresh air, or simply hanging out by your side, he’s happiest when he gets to share those moments with his people.

What breaks our hearts is knowing that every day Mo spends waiting is another day he doesn’t have a family to call his own. He deserves a couch to curl up on, a yard to explore, and people who are excited to come home to him every day.

He’s ready. His adoption fee has been paid. All that’s missing is you.

Please help us find Mo the home he deserves. Share his story, tag your friends, and help us get this sweet boy seen by the person who’s been looking for a dog just like him. ❤️

🐾 Foster Needed for Piper 🐾

Piper is a sweet, smart St. Bernard looking for a foster home while she waits for her spay surgery! She previously lived with kids and another large dog and was said to do well with both. She seems to love all people, is house trained, knows commands, and enjoys plenty of attention and belly rubs.

Piper may need a home without cats. We have not yet officially dog tested her at the shelter due to kennel cough precautions and are currently limiting dog interactions to help keep her healthy.

Interested in fostering Piper? Contact us today! Visit pawscares.org for more info!

Want to help Piper and pets like her even if you can’t foster? Donations help provide medical care, food, shelter, and supplies for animals in need. Every contribution makes a difference! Donate here: https://www.pawscares.org/donate

What a way to kick off summer! ☀️🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Paces for PAWS and helped launch the RUN Belfast series. It was a morning full of energy, community, and wagging tails.

We were especially excited to welcome PAWS alum Dunkin back with his mom. Dunkin proved that underneath all that fluff, he’s got some serious speed.

Thank you for showing up for homeless pets and making this event such a success. Summer is off to a strong start!

✨ Success Story Sunday: Kronos ✨

Every once in a while, we receive an update that completely stops us in our tracks, and Kronos’ family shared one that brought us to tears. ❤️

“Kronos is quite literally the best thing to ever happen to our family. He is the center of our universe, and we truly don’t know how we ever existed without him before.”

When Kronos first came to PAWS, he was an incredibly anxious dog. During their first meeting, he mostly wanted to go back inside where he felt safe. He struggled with new environments, leash walking, and trusting the world around him.

But his family saw past that.

“The dog you meet in the shelter is not always the dog you bring home. Kronos is the perfect example of that.”

With patience, love, and time, Kronos slowly became more comfortable, confident, and fully himself. Today, he’s completely thriving.

Now lovingly known as Kro, Kroni, Mr. Stretchy Guy, and many more 😂, his family describes him as “an indoor cat trapped in a pitbull’s body.” He loves long car rides, snuggling with his cat sibling, and has quickly become everyone’s favorite family member.

But one of the sweetest parts of their update was hearing how Kronos helps tuck their daughter into bed every single night.

“Every night, he’ll walk her to her room, wait for her to climb into bed, then jump up beside her and snuggle her until she falls asleep.”

🥹❤️

“The anxious dog we met at the shelter is still in there somewhere, but now he’s wrapped in confidence, comfort, and the knowledge that he’s home.”

Stories like Kronos’ are exactly why we do what we do. 🐾

🐾 From Fearful Kittens to Beloved Family Members 🐾

Some of you may remember Puck and Wolfie, two kittens who arrived at PAWS extremely scared and unsure of the world around them. They found comfort in each other but were hesitant to trust people, making it hard to imagine just how much they would blossom.

Today, both boys are thriving in their forever homes.

Puck, now known as Tiggaloo, spent his first weeks at home hiding behind a washing machine. With patience, understanding, and adopters who let him move at his own pace, he slowly learned to trust. Today he’s a cuddly lap cat who demands attention, sleeps with his family, rolls over for belly rubs, and keeps a watchful eye on his feline friends. He also shares a special bond with his family’s dog, Demon. Despite Demon being much larger, the two have been playmates from the start, and Tiggaloo still isn’t afraid to remind the 70-pound pup who’s really in charge when needed!

Wolfie has also transformed into a confident and happy companion. His family tells us he’s become the energetic little brother to their two older cats, keeping them active and entertained. He’s bonded closely with his adopters, loves treats, adores spring toys, and even plays fetch. His favorite pastime may be delivering toys to his humans in the middle of the night so they’re ready to play when they wake up!

These stories are a wonderful reminder that fearful cats are often just waiting for the right people to give them time, patience, and love. The journey isn’t always quick, but the reward is immeasurable.

Thank you to both families for believing in these boys when they needed it most and for giving them the chance to become the happy, loved cats they are today. ❤️
