Brookline for Racial Justice and Equity

Brookline for Racial Justice and Equity We’re on a mission to eliminate racism in Brookline, Massachusetts — join us. BRJE’s mission is to eliminate racism in Brookline, MA.

We envision an accessible and inclusive Brookline where people of color live, learn, work, visit, build power, and thrive free of racism and oppression. We’ll get there by building an informed, motivated, and organized constituency for racial justice while leveraging our collective power to reshape the systems around us.

BRJE, the Brookline Asian American Family Network, and the Brookline Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations are partnering to close out AANHPI Heritage Month with a free Mahjong workshop for the Brookline community!

Facilitator Rob Chin was born and raised on the South Shore and has spent years working in Boston's Chinatown nonprofit space, building community through arts and culture. He's on a mission to share the fun and joy of Hong Kong-style Mahjong.

This beginner-friendly workshop covers the basics of Hong Kong-style Mahjong. No experience needed. Come hang out, meet neighbors, and play some Mahjong!

📅 Sunday, May 31 | 3:00–5:00 PM

🎉We're thrilled to share that BRJE was awarded $15,000 by the Brookline Community Foundation through their 2026 Youth Development Grant! This funding will sustain our youth fellowship program and bring on a new cohort of fellows this coming year.

The BRJE fellowship gives high schoolers paid opportunities to do real civic engagement work. In just the past few months, our fellows sat on panels, led protest art workshops and film screenings for Brookline youth, met with elected officials and authors, and took on local policy research projects.

We're grateful for BCF's recognition, and so proud of everything this cohort has accomplished.

🎉 TONIGHT 🎉 Join us at the Brookline Booksmith at 7:00 PM for an author talk celebrating the paperback release of We Refuse: A Forceful History of Black Resistance with Kellie Carter Jackson.

Black resistance to white supremacy is often reduced to a simple binary, between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s nonviolence and Malcolm X’s “by any means necessary.” In We Refuse, historian Kellie Carter Jackson urges us to move past this false choice, offering an examination of the breadth of Black responses to white oppression, particularly those pioneered by Black women.

🏆 Winner of the 2025 Darlene Clark Hines Award
This event is free and open to the community.

Capacity may be limited, so RSVP at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rescheduled-kellie-carter-jackson-we-refuse-tickets-1985075227442?aff=oddtdtcreator
