It Takes A Village: Brookline

It Takes A Village: Brookline Made possible by the support of the Brookline Community Foundation The same is true for coping with the journey of Alzheimer’s and related dementia.

'It Takes a Village™ Brookline.' A dementia support program that utilizes existing community arts and culture settings to provide accessibility and improve quality of life. Program made possible through a grant from the Brookline Community Foundation. “It takes a village to live with dementia.” No one individual can cope successfully with such daunting challenges as raising a child, dealing with a

ddiction, or even navigating through life without the assistance of neighbors, friends, and the community in which they live—no matter how independent a person may feel he or she is. The “It Takes a Village” Project links numerous arts and culture offerings in Brookline, provides dementia-competent facilitators, trains partners in managing such events, all to provide programs specially designed for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The “It Takes a Village-Brookline” Project schedules events at these venues on a weekly basis (one event at one partner’s setting each week, not one event per venue each week), publicizes this network to the Alzheimer’s community and establishes a reservations system to link those in need with the opportunities presented. Where transportation is an issue, the program works with town departments to link participants with providers.

What a fantastic day at The Brookline Senior Center! Amidst the measured beauty of poet Cheryl Perreault's verse, participants put poetry to paper and created artistic interpretations. Thank you Sally Sutton for helping us overcome the fear of the blank page. One of the attendees summed it up best: "This is the most fun I've had in 30 years!"
