we had no idea a heat wave was coming the same week our ac resigned when we said "same time, same place" at our last book club, BUT our nice pals at N E W F O U N D - which i could see from where i took this picture if I could see through buildings - are happily opening their space for us to meet.

September 10th is World Su***de Prevention Day, and we can’t think of a better day to open the doors to the TC STRONG loft and invite our community in.

This day is about starting conversations, strengthening connections, and reminding one another that we all have a role to play in su***de prevention.

At TC STRONG, that means creating spaces where young people feel confident and secure in
connection, purpose, and hope; equipping caring adults to recognize when someone may need support & help keep them safe in the moment; and building stronger pathways to help through both prevention and intervention.

Come see the space we’re creating alongside youth, meet the team, learn about upcoming trainings and programs, and get a glimpse of what we’re building
better together.

Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or are just getting to know our work,

today we celebrate this guy, our founder & squishy aficionado, Rik Emaus on his next lap around the 🌞. one of the things we ♡ best about him is that most any day of the week you'll spot him cheering on the youth of our community, on or off the field.

Voice of the Students was excited to host a team from NC Child: the Voice for North Carolina's Children for a Youth Mental Health Focus Group right here in Transylvania County!

15 youth, ages 14–19, from across Transylvania County came together to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas about youth mental health in our community.

NC Child is a statewide nonprofit using research, data, advocacy, and community voice to improve the lives of children and families across North Carolina. As part of this work, they’re hosting focus groups across Western NC to hear directly from young people about what’s working, where gaps exist, and what they believe would make a meaningful difference. Their feedback will help inform a regional report, with findings shared at a TC STRONG Network Meeting later this year.

We were especially proud to hear that last night’s group was one of their most engaged sessions yet — a reflection of just how ready our young people are to be part of these conversations.

Because if we’re working to improve systems for young people, their voices should help shape the way forward. 💜

Grateful for a full day of learning, sharing + growing alongside fellow Blue Cross NC Foundation Youth Mental Health grantees from across NC. 💙

We learned about projects across the state, caring for ourselves + each other while doing this work, and brought a little joy into the day with a beautiful bloom bar. 💐

Heading home inspired, encouraged + ready to keep creating space for young people to lead alongside us here in Transylvania County.

Grateful to Blue Cross Blue Shield NC Foundation for investing in the work AND the people doing it. 💙
