Good health starts in the places we live, work, learn, and connect with each other. 🏡

This Pride Month, we're thinking about something simple but powerful: when people feel safe and valued in their communities, everyone is healthier for it.

We're grateful for the LGBTQ+ individuals who make Western North Carolina such a vibrant place to live, and we're proud to support a community where everyone has the chance to thrive.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Earlier this week, we welcomed Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals to the Trust Center for a conversation about curiosity, nonlinear career paths, and community leadership.

Through storytelling, reflection, and creative expression, we explored “The Hummingbird Way” — the idea that meaningful careers are often shaped less by straight lines and more by curiosity and winding flight patterns.

Pisgah Health board member Kane Farmer shared his educational and career experience growing up and then returning to Transylvania County.

A mapping exercise encouraged participants to reflect on the relationships and experiences that have shaped their path— and to consider what environments, values, and curiosities are calling them forward.

Grateful to the Chamber for their partnership in this work!

On Friday night, we welcomed 175 community members to Brevard Music Center for a screening of the award-winning documentary Between the Mountain and the Sky, with humanitarian Maggie Doyne. ✨

The film’s themes of resilience, grief, joy, belonging, and community care deeply resonated with the work happening across Western North Carolina post-Helene. At Pisgah Health Foundation and through our PowHer Women's Networking Collaborative, we believe health and wellbeing are shaped by access to new ideas, opportunity, meaningful relationships, and communities where people feel seen, supported, and able to thrive.

What made the evening so meaningful wasn’t just the film itself— it was the feeling in the room. Nonprofit leaders, educators, students, business owners, and neighbors gathering to reflect, connect, and remember that hope and healing are built in community.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, volunteered, partnered, sponsored, and helped bring this inspiring evening to life! 💛

Last night reminded us that community wellbeing is built in small, human moments: gathering together, sharing stories, grieving honestly, choosing hope anyway.

In our work, we often talk about the social determinants of health— safety, access to care, connection, belonging, opportunity. Between the Mountain and the Sky brought all of those to life in a powerful way.

Again and again after the film, we heard the same words: “Tonight changed me.”

For a few hours, our community slowed down to sit together with a story that was both heartbreaking and deeply hopeful. Nonprofit leader Maggie Doyne reminded us that even after unimaginable loss, people can choose joy, lean into community, and create systems of care rooted in love.

It was especially meaningful to have two of Maggie’s children with us— Deepak, on the eve of his college graduation, and Nisha, preparing to begin graduate school in nursing. They are living proof of what is possible when we prioritize care for the next generation.

If you saw the film and left inspired or weren’t able to make the screening, you can rent or gift Between the Mountain and the Sky for Mother’s Day: https://www.betweenthemountainandthesky.com/

We also sold out of signed copies last night, but you can still order the book through Highland Books. 🩵
