And they’re off!! TWENTY-FIVE hikers started the annual hike in to Camp Daniel Boone from the Little East Fork Trail this morning. TWELVE of those hikers are first-timers - including a 4-legged friend. We can’t wait to hear their stories on Sunday!

Scouting helps build the values of community service and has the slogan “Do a Good Turn Daily.” Yesterday members of Troop 703 helped out with Pisgah Project Day by clearing underbrush around a stand of shortleaf pines. It was a fun day of service and learning about forestry at the Cradle of Forestry in America.

Last weekend BSA Troop 703 Brevard NC had an amazing high adventure trip in the Linville Gorge wilderness. The best climbing instructors around helped the Scouts learn about climbing and rappelling and most of all, the safe way to climb. Many of the Scouts are now very close to earning their Climbing Merit Badge. The Table Rock trail was very steep and rocky but everyone powered through, including some on their first hike with the Troop. Saturday night the cold front came in and we slept with windchill in the 20s. Everyone overcame the elements, fears and challenges to grow as young men and leaders. We are so blessed.

In preparation for our Linville Gorge adventure in a couple of weeks, we had Joe Moerschbaecher from Pura Vida Adventures present last night. We went over climbing gear, knots and climbing route books. We are all excited to do some climbing and work on the climbing Merit Badge. Thanks Joe!

For our January Activity, we enjoyed an afternoon at the Brevard Rock Gym. A great indoor activity for winter, and maybe motivational for a few adventurous scouts to pursue their Climbing merit badge? Thank you Brevard Rock Gym for an amazing day!

Brevard Holiday Parade 2025 was tons of fun as always! The Scouts wrote A Scout Story to tie in to the “Storybook Christmas” theme, and showcased some of their favorite outdoor activities - backpacking, cycling, canoeing, and camping - as they handed out candy and waved to parade viewers. They also cleaned up wrappers and candy along the route. A Scout is Helpful!

Day 7 on the Philmont trek - reforestation project, planting trees and staying put for a day/night without a hike.

Day 8 on the trek - 9 miles up to Upper Dean Cow, with a brutal 1200ft elevation gain in the first 1.5 miles. No cell service so no pictures of this day yet, but a satellite message confirming all is well was great to receive.

Day 9 (today) is a 6.6 mile hike to Ewells Park, with a few passthrough activities and Baldy prep. Tomorrow will be their Baldy summit day!

And a fun memory pop up from Troop 703’s last Philmont crew, on the trail 4 years ago to the day!
