Private, non-profit elementary school for students with learning disabilties.

Students with learning challenges need a specific learning approach to achieve success as confident readers and writers. Cottonwood Day School provides a unique and exceptional learning environment to students with dyslexia and other language based disabilities. Our specialized approach to instruction takes into consideration that each student’s learning style is unique and requires individualization. At Cottonwood Day School, we develop a customized individualized learning plan for each student. Our team of reading, elementary, and special education teachers work collaboratively to ensure that the goals and objectives of each child’s leaning plan are met.

Meet the Teacher: Hadley Stonecipher, Speech Language Pathologist

Hadley grew up in Bozeman and headed to Portland for her Master of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences at Portland State University, specializing in bilingual speech-language pathology. She interned at Oregon Health and Science University and Doernbecher Children's Hospital, working with patients from infants to teenagers on language and speech development, feeding and swallowing, augmentative and alternative communication, and social communication.

After time with the Portland Public School District she came home to Bozeman in late 2019. Hadley builds linguistic and cultural factors into her therapy so each student can communicate more effectively within their own social community. She is nationally certified through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed in Montana.

A Day at Cottonwood: a visit with Hyalite Fire

Meet the Teacher: Ema Meier, Enrichment Instructor

Ema is originally from Oregon and recently graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Criminology. Along the way she developed a strong interest in child development, learning and creating supportive environments where students can grow.

Outside of school she loves gardening, traveling, baking and exploring Montana with her dogs, Gus and Murphy. She's looking forward to helping our students discover new interests, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Meet the Teacher: Tina Albers, Elementary Teacher

Tina graduated from Idaho State University with a B.A. in Physical Education and Health and later earned a master's in Physical Education and Administration. After teaching in Idaho and Big Sky, she went back to school for a B.S. in Elementary Education and spent the rest of her career in middle schools, where she became a go-to resource for students who struggle.

After retiring, she missed teaching so much that she came back to work with students who need just a little bit more help. In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors, reading, writing and playing with her pets.
