Seeking a Deputy Legal Director!

Building off the individual rights guaranteed by Montana’s modern constitution, the Deputy Legal Director will shape and guide a docket to fight back against governmental discrimination, harassment and marginalization of impacted communities.

The ideal candidate has:
● J.D. plus at least 9 years of civil litigation experience.
● Admission to the State Bar of Montana, Federal District Court for the District of Montana, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. If not admitted, commitment to apply for admission within six months of start date.

This position is full-time, exempt, and will pay an annual salary of between $115,000 and $120,000. The position is fully remote, based anywhere in Montana. Application review will start October 19, 2026.

Welcome to Transgender 101!

A transgender person has a gender different from the s*x assigned to them at birth. Transition can be social (eg. changing name, dressing differently) and/or medical (eg. pursuing gender-aligning surgeries).

Some nonbinary people — people outside of the male-female gender binary — consider themselves transgender, while others don’t.

Everyone, regardless of gender, is entitled to the same human rights of privacy, dignity, equal treatment, and the freedom to make personal decisions about their own lives.

We successfully fought to make the Montana constitution’s promise of an inclusive Native education a reality — alongside Native American Rights Fund and the national ACLU.

Alongside our partners, we successfully fought to make real the Montana constitution’s promise of an inclusive education.

Our settlement establishes accountability measures to ensure this critical material is taught and that Tribal Nations help shape it.

What is Two Spirit? Montana Two Spirit Society co-founder and executive director David Herrera answers.

Two Spirit is an umbrella cultural term for q***r Indigenous people, created by Native people from various tribes in the 1980s when nationally organizing in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis. The term is rooted in Indigenous self-determination.

Today, we took Montana’s anti-trans bathroom ban to court … again.

After securing a temporary block on the law last year, we’re now fighting to strike it down permanently.

Here’s the plain truth about bathroom bans: The problem they claim to solve doesn't exist.

Across the country, transgender people are able to use facilities that align with their gender identity, and there’s no evidence that allowing them to do so makes anyone less safe.

We will always stand for the right to live in peace as our authentic selves. Transgender, Two-Spirit, and inters*x people belong in Montana.

A win for immigrant rights! This week, the Federal Government agreed to a settlement that will protect our clients - two international graduate students - in our student visa case, Roe v. Noem. The case is now dismissed.
