Gallatin Valley Land Trust

Gallatin Valley Land Trust Gallatin Valley Land Trust in Bozeman, MT helps private landowners to conserve their land and creates trails to connect people, communities and the land.

Since our founding in 1990 we have helped conserve nearly 50,000 acres of land in Gallatin Valley and the surrounding communities through partnerships with private landowners, sustaining stewardship of family lands using voluntary conservation agreements. Through public and private partnerships GVLT has helped expand the Main Street to the Mountains trail system to over 80 miles in length, providi

ng recreation, transportation and a connection to nature. GVLT is your community land trust and is a member-supported, nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representing the communities we serve.

Who are GVLT’s Gallaguardians?

They’re hikers and cyclists. Parents and retirees. People who have called Southwest Montana home for decades—and people who just arrived.

What connects them is simple: they’ve chosen to protect our trails and open lands every single month through recurring gifts.

But being a Gallaguardian is about more than a monthly gift—it’s about being part of a community. It’s a way to stay connected to the land you love and to people who share your passion for sustaining it for generations to come.

"My husband and I only recently moved to Bozeman, and I'm so happy that we can support GVLT so they can continue the great work they do." - Sandy Allen, Gallaguardian

Right now, there’s an extra reason to join: A generous donor will give $500 for every new Gallaguardian who starts a monthly gift of $10 or more (up to 40 new donors!). If you’ve been thinking about becoming a Gallaguardian, now is the time!

Will you join them? Become a Gallaguardian today: https://www.gvlt.org/support/monthly-giving

Remember: Montana is bear country. Follow these tips from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks to stay safe while exploring the outdoors:

1. Carry bear spray in an accessible place and know how to use it.
2. Stay alert and look for bear activity, especially where visibility or hearing is limited (woods, bushy areas, streams).
3. Travel in a group and keep members together (especially kids).
4. Make noise whenever possible to avoid surprising a bear, especially where visibility or hearing is limited.
5. Avoid traveling at night, dawn, or dusk.
6. Avoid carcass sites and scavenger concentrations.

What an incredible night for land conservation and trail access! ✨

Last Saturday, we gathered for our biennial Evening on the Land gala fundraiser, and we are still buzzing with energy and filled with gratitude.

Over 300 of our friends gave generously to raise an amazing total of $930,700—funding that will directly enhance the quality of life that Southwest Montana's unparalleled open spaces and connected trails provide for everyone in our community.

A huge thank you to the Angelovich family for welcoming us onto their stunning Kelly Canyon conservation easement; our host committee, Edward Lichty & Kelly Corrigan, Carlye Cook, Will & Caroline Price, and Sasha Slorer; and our presenting sponsor, Bozeman Health!

To our attendees, Board of Directors, and event sponsors—thank you for making such a lasting impact! ❤️

The generosity of this entire community—whether you donate at any level, join us for volunteer trail work, or raise awareness about our mission of trails and conservation—is what sustains our work. THANK YOU, Southwest Montana!

Stay tuned for details about our 2027 Field Day—GVLT's biennial picnic and community celebration.

Big shoutout to volunteers from the Travis Manion Foundation! 👏

These hard-working youth volunteers hiked all the way to the top of Triple Tree Trail, helping clear important drainage features along the way. They got an incredible amount of work done in record time.

Thank you for your time and dedication to stewarding this beloved trail! 🥾 ✨
